Transportation Policy Council Meeting: March 26 |

At its March meeting, the Transportation Policy Council approved an amended resolution for the North Houston Highway Improvement Project. The resolution supports a cooperative approach between the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and local agencies during the project's next steps of planning and design as well as finding solutions that address stakeholder and community concerns and environmental impacts. The approved resolution can be viewed online here.
In other business, policy council members approved amendments to the 2021-24 Transportation Improvement Program and the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan, and the 2021-22 Unified Planning Work Program. They also added some new members to the Transportation Safety Committee. The council filled two primary and alternate vacancies in the Law Enforcement/Fire/EMS/Emergency Management member category and one primary and alternate vacancy in the Shippers member category. The new primary members will be Lt. Cedrick Collier of the Harris County Sheriff Office, Nabile Shike at Fort Bend County Constable Precinct 4, and Bruce Mann at Port Houston. Sgt. Deleon Huff, Jimmy Evans, and Don Smith respectively will serve as their alternates. Click here to view the list of member modifications to the Transportation Safety Committee. Additionally, the council recognized the service of outgoing member Maureen Crocker, who served for 11 years on the TPC representing freight rail interests as well as with the city of Houston and the Gulf Coast Rail District.

H-GAC Seeks Community Input on Transportation Studies in Key Areas Experiencing Rapid Development |

H-GAC continues its series of virtual public meetings discussing transportation studies in key areas of the Houston-Galveston metropolitan planning area experiencing rapid growth and development. The next meeting in the series covers the Montgomery County Precinct 2 Mobility Study. It will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 22. The final meeting in the series will cover the Liberty County Mobility Study. It will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 29.
These meetings are your opportunity to tell us about your issues and needs to make your community's transportation network safer, stronger, better connected, and more accessible to everyone. H-GAC experts will present the studies, after which attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and make public comments. Previously, H-GAC hosted a public meeting concerning the Southeast Harris County Subregional Study. If you were not able to attend, you can still find out more about the study and how to share your input at engage.h-gac.com.

This position reports directly to the transportation director of H-GAC and will be responsible for supporting a regional policymaking council with implementing a short term and long-range vision of the transportation system for one of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.

H-GAC's Jamila Owens, Commute Solutions program manager, discussed the results of the group's Regional Employer Survey - which evaluated the impact of COVID-19 on worksites - and the future of telework on a recent broadcast of the Houston Public Media radio show 'Houston Matters with Craig Cohen.'

Livable Centers Call for Planning Study Partners |
|
Livable Centers are places where people can live, work, and play with less reliance on their cars. The studies encourage a complementary mix of land uses that are designed to be walkable, connected, and accessible by multiple modes of transportation. Livable Centers Implementation can take many forms, including on the ground projects, policies and programs.
Sponsors can propose one of the following study types:
- Full Livable Centers Studies - Aims to create walkable live, work, play environments at a neighborhood or district level.
- Focused Livable Centers Studies - Targets small areas such as a community-node or destination, or focus on a specific livable centers goal.
This application is a two-step process, and must be submitted online. Sponsors are required to notify H-GAC of their intent to apply no later than 5 p.m. May 27, 2021. Intent to apply must include the proposed study area location. After submitting the intent to apply, applicants will receive an email notification and access to the application submittal portal. Sponsors must be submitted online to H-GAC no later than 5 p.m. July 29, 2021.
