Regional Assembly Theme Scripture
Luke 24:13
As you reflect on our theme scripture this week, read it quietly and see which part of the story connects to you in your life at this time. What moment in the story "clicks" for you and grabs your attention?
Verse 21 "But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place."
In this verse we hear the longing of the speakers who have had their hopes for a preferred future dashed. "We had hoped..." and "besides all of this"....key phrases in this verse. As we gather for assembly, we are a people who over the past couple of years have had to deeply rearrange the future we had anticipated due to a pandemic, volatile political environment and personal unforeseen circumstances. Somedays when another stress gets added on top of all we are already carrying, we too say, "and besides all this!!" I cannot make one more adjustment, and it is just too much!
As we gather as people of faith to 'recalculate", we are reclaiming our community of hope by seeing each other and holding onto one another as we take next steps as individuals, congregations and regional church.
As you prepare for assembly, look at the ways we will be called to let go of preferred future for the new one that awaits us. How will we meet Christ in that new future? As one of our regional saints, Rev. Lynnette Biggers, used to say, "I do not fear the future for God is already there."
