Recognition of Ordination

Today Rev. Geonyul Byeon's ordination was formally recognized by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during the 11:00 worship service of Salem First Christian Church. Rev. Byeon has been meeting with our Commission on Ministry preparing for this day.

The leader of the NAPAD (North American Pacific Asian Disciples) of the Christian Church, Rev. Chung Seong Kim, brought the morning message. Rev. Byeon recently graduated from Claremont School of Theology. He was ordained in Korea, and later he came to study in the United States and has been an active member of the Salem First Christian Church during his seminary time. Rev. Byeon will be continuing his studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.
Regional Assembly
Follow Up

Since the assembly, there have been several avenues of follow up.
  • Evaluation form launched on line HERE
  • Scheduling a July meeting with local arrangements team to do onsite evaluation
  • Settling the expenses and paying bills
  • Writing thank you notes for those who contributed to FEDICE offering, regional assembly costs offering and to scholarship funding.
  • Finalizing FEDICE offering (Currently at $3,803.00)..
  • Continuing to post pictures -- some more to do
  • Collating the cards collected at the Saturday morning futuring conversation. Summary HERE.
  • Follow up calls with keynoters and workshop leaders for for feedback on future events.
  • Beginning the work of creating an assembly planning manual for the next event using what we have learned in this year's event.
  • In July we will move the Regional Assembly link on the webpage to a less prominent position on the site, but it will still be there for people to access the recordings for further use.
Cathy is going on vacation days June 20-July 11.
She will be back in the office July 12.

Doug will be meeting with New Church Ministries Team, Verne Catt McDowell Foundation, and FEDICE USA leadership in these next weeks and working on searches at Grants Pass, Rio de Dios, Lebanon and Portsmouth Union as well as administrative tasks.

Renee is working remotely from Lebanon this week. Liz is back from her vacation and continuing her Tuesday work days in office.

Bernice and Stacy are both working their usual tasks
out of office.

August 26-28, Snake River District Women's Retreat, Cascade, Idaho, Rev. Michelle Harris-Gloyer, Associate Pastor, Salem First Christian Church, keynote speaker. Information HERE

September 23, Pastors Boundary Training/Financial Ethics Workshop with Bruce Barkhauer, Center for Faith and Giving for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This will be a required training for ministers with Standing. Additional workshops for lay leaders will be scheduled around this visit.

September 25 - October 2, Reconciliation Ministries Offering

October 7-8, Women's Retreat hosted by Murray Hills Christian Church, Rev. Dr. La Taunya Bynum, Regional Minister of the Northern California/Nevada Region, keynote speaker. Information HERE

Since the
Regional Board Meeting

Doug met with the Commission on Ministry, Interchurch Center Steering Committee, Lebanon Search Committee and attended Salem FCC for Rev. Byeon's recognition, as well as continuing in his other usual administrative and program duties.

Cathy met with the Blue Mountain Rivers District clergy, Silverton FCC Governing Documents Committee, the Red Rock Transition Team, and attended/participated in the baptism of former regional board member Sophia Berger. She helped to lead and craft the online women's event held on June 18 and has been working with clean up of assembly, communications, and preparing for a regional elders meeting in July. She is also completing a term as nominating chair for the College of Regional Ministers.

Both Doug and Cathy have been in touch with a number of clergy and congregations for individual consultation on wide variety of issues.
Congregations in Transition Update
  • Albany: Cathy is working with this transition. The congregation has appointed an Interim Support Team and is working to frame a Pastoral Search Committee. Cathy has met with leadership, and the Interim team is starting to work on a congregational profile. Interim Pastor, Gene Hill, begin his ministry June 15. Associate Pastor Eric Eide is completing his ministry with the congregation in late June.
  • Grants Pass: Doug is working with this transition. Aaron Larson is serving as Interim Pastor.
  • Homedale: They are not currently meeting in person. Regional Elder Larry Crist in contact with leadership.
  • Lebanon First Christian Church: Greg Widener, is serving as part time Interim Minister through July. Doug is working with leadership to secure a settled part time pastor. He met with a search committee and Presbyterian Executive to explore a yoked parish of Disciples/Presbyterians sharing one pastor in Lebanon.
  • McMinnville First Christian Church: Neil Allen began his pulpit supply ministry May 1. This is the congregation of Regional Board Member Laura Herring.
  • Ontario FCC: Tammy Anderson is providing pulpit supply every other week and participating in the Blue Mountain Rivers District Clergy monthly zoom calls. This is the congregation of Regional Board Member Beth Seamans.
  • Portsmouth Union/Portland: Doug is working with this search. Regional Board Member, Rev. Shari Eggleston serving as Interim Minister.
  • Red Rock Boise: Rev. David Eggleston is serving as Interim Pastor. Cathy is working with this transition. Cathy met with some of the members of the Transition Team this past week and got them started on the work of preparing a congregational profile.
  • Rio de Dios: Doug and Bernice are working with this transition, with Bernice serving in some interim roles.
  • Silverton: Regional Vice Moderator, Rev. Eric Eide, has been called to be the pastor of this congregation, beginning on July 1. Regional Staff Member, Rev. Renee Windsor-White, has been acting as pulpit supply since February and will continue through June.
