Resilience Design Standards Workshop

This Resilience Design Standards Workshop will offer a deep-dive into the Resilience Design Standards: Model Standards for North Carolina’s Historic Properties on Monday, March 18 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. This great resource is a ready-made tool for local governments to encourage and support historic resilience efforts by property owners.

The Standards provide a model regulatory framework for historic preservation commissions to assess the appropriateness of specific structural interventions for properties with a local historic designation. The Standards may be tailored to a community and adopted as a supplement to existing preservation design standards. The half-day online workshop will explore the standards and equip communities to put them into place.

NCPRO & ncIMPACT Focus Groups

ncIMPACT Initiative is proud to partner with the North Carolina Pandemic Recovery Office (NCPRO) to identify issues of greatest concern about pandemic recovery through focus groups and NCPRO’s Community Engagement Survey (CES), Business Engagement Survey (BES), and Resiliency Index (Index). These regional focus groups will offer insights into past survey results, assess the success of state, local, and federal programs to address these concerns, and help formulate recommendations for continuing to build resilient communities across the state. We will use the boundaries of the regional council of governments for these upcoming focus groups. A final report will be shared with local and state policy leaders in May.

Focus groups will take place throughout March 2024 with CPRC's region taking place March 7 from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. If selected to participate in a focus group, we will reach out via email. The Clean Water Education Partnership is excited to announce the 4th annual CWEP Regional Creek Week, March 16-23. A wide variety of other in-person & virtual events are being hosted by partner local governments around the region and state. Details and registration can be found below! Coordinated Plan Update for Mobility of Older Adults and those with Disabilities

Join the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) in updating our Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan. This plan addresses existing mobility and future needs for older adults and those with disabilities in the urbanized areas of Durham, Orange, and Chatham counties. Four workshops will be available to learn more and provide input. These workshops are open to the public, human services agencies, and anyone else who is interested in mobility in the area.

International Women's Day: Women in Local Government

International Women's Day is this Friday, March 8, and we want to recognize all the amazing women who work at Central Pines Regional Council, as well as those who serve as elected officials and work in our local governments. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. According to UN Women, data from 141 countries show that women constitute more than 3 million (35%) of elected members in local deliberative bodies. Only 3 countries have reached 50% and an additional 22 countries have more than 40% women serving in local government. Explore more about women in local government HERE.
