News From Around the Region
Stay up to date with our roundup of planning and development news around the region.

Advancing One Water Through Arts and Culture
The One Water approach envisions managing all water, whether it is stormwater, wastewater, drinking water, groundwater, or surface water, with the recognition that it is a different aspect of a common fresh water resource.

Water leaders are increasingly turning to artists and cultural leaders to help bring visibility to water issues, create more inclusive and imaginative planning processes, and leverage infrastructure investments to provide additional benefits to the communities they serve.
Native plants are featured prominently in the redesigned landscape at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. These plants have deep roots that help manage stormwater on the site while also providing habitat for pollinators and other species.

The US Water Alliance was formed in 2008 to bring together diverse interests to achieve solutions to our pressing water challenges. Their publication Advancing One Water
Through Arts and Culture , provides an analysis and case studies on strategies to use art and culture to advance sustainable, integrated, and inclusive management of our nation's water resources.

Our fresh water resources are essential to the health and wellbeing of the greater Madison region. The Capital Area Regional Planning Commission is committed to collaborating with other agencies, communities, and organizations to continue to bring the One Water approach to our region.
Missing Single Family Homes, Housing Construction in Dane County
Zillow analysis shows more than six million homes missing from U.S. market
Between 1985 and 2000, there were 3.9 permits issued for single-family homes throughout the U.S. per 1,000 residents. According to a Zillow analysis, if that historic rate had continued over the past decade, there would be about 6.3 million more single-family homes in the housing stock.
