Congratulations to Elizabeth Lazear!
|
|
"Lizzie Lazear was introduced to the Arabian horse through Taking the Reins, where they have been participating in the equine classes along with their other programs since 2015. Through AHA, you would often find them volunteering endless hours of time handing out ribbons, opening and closing gates and many other volunteer duties at several horse shows every year, including this very Championship show. They have accumulated countless hours, studying and participating in our Region's youth judging and hippology contests. In 2020, they participated in the National Hippology competition in October. They have continued their acts of service to our organization through AHA of San Fernando Valley as well as becoming a youth board member for Region 2 as the treasurer. Graduating from Louisville High School in Woodland Hills, Lizzie will be attending Cal State University of Monterey Bay where they will be studying Marine Science. They credit their love of public speaking, self-confidence and the joy of service to their years being a part of the Arabian Horse Association, their time at Taking the Reins, and the mentors and friendships they gained along the way. Lastly, a message of thanks to the Region 2 Scholarship committee: Thank you for this award and for believing in my future."

On Friday, July 16th Region 5 Arabian Horse Association board represented by Carrie Olson (Director), Richard Galarza (Vice-Director), Julie Karnath (Secretary), Michelle Pease-Paulsen (Past Director), Pat Hough (Director at Large), Denise Cummings (Club Advisor) and Joan Shelton-Palelek (Club Advisor) unveiled their Arabian Horse for Humanity at the Region 5 Championship Show in Monroe, WA. The Region 5 Arabian Horse for Humanity project started at convention in 2019 and has partnered with the charity of choice, Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center of Redmond, WA.
Nearly three years later, Region 5 uncovered the horse and revealed Benevolence R5, affectionately called Benny, to the public for the first time. Benny was expertly painted by Washington based artist, Becky Miller. A longtime Arabian horse owner, Becky sought inspiration from the Arabians who have touched her life, painting Benny in the image of the gray Arabian gelding that she grew up loving and inspired her passion for the breed. Benny is also adorned in a custom presentation set and blanket skillfully made by Gina Dupree of Arabian Fancy. The blanket includes a patch honoring our inaugural sponsor, Phyllis Dunmire in honor of Mike Dunmire a long time support and volunteer at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center.
Region 5 was joined in the presentation by sponsor Phyllis Dunmire who shared stories about her late husband’s passionate work with Little Bit and talked about the importance of volunteers in the program. Phyllis introduced former volunteer Carli Belouskas to talk about her first hand experience working with the program.
We were also joined by Little Bit participant Willow, her mom Tanja and her grandma Chris. The family shared their experience in how equine therapy has helped Willow and how thankful they were to find Little Bit. After the unveiling, Region 5 presented the initial donation of $1,000 to Little Bit Development Director, Sharon Soldenwagner.
Benny will start his journey sharing both the Arabian Horse and Little Bit’s mission with the public through appearances at Region 5 Shows and Events and be on display at Little Bit. At the end of his tour, he will be auctioned off at the Little Bit Reins of Life Gala Auction. To learn more about Little Bit visit the link

Breyerfest 2022 was a success!
After a two year break, Breyerfest was back in action at the Kentucky Horse Park and Region 14 was excited to be a part of such a grab event!
From Friday to Sunday, our volunteers spent time interacting with attendees and sharing all things Arabian and Half-Arabian horse. Many visited to share their own Arabian horse stories, show us photos of their four legged best pals, and all were gracious to have Arabian horse representation amongst all of the other breeds.
We introduced some new swag - and the personalized drawstring bags and crayons were quite a hit!
Big thank you to Region 14 Directors, Jeff Caldwell and Jennifer Tucker, and Region 14 members Sydney Epley, Linda Ferris, Kara Hatzai, Peggy Hunter, Jacqueline MacLaren, Isabelle MacLaren, Lucy MacLaren, Caryn Sappelli, and Tonya Taylor for dedicating time for this event! We appreciate you!

AHCC Annual A Show Highlights
The Arabian Horse Club of Connecticut (AHCC) held their annual A Show in West Springfield, MA, from May 13-15. A new addition this year was a horsey sundae bar, graciously sponsored by the Carpinella Family. This was a huge hit on Saturday afternoon as exhibitors gathered to scoop carrot, apple, banana and celery slices, along with bran and German Horse Muffin treats to reward their horse for a job well done!
Exhibitor activities, organized in partnership with the Region 16 Youth and Amateur Committee, included a silent auction, coloring contest and youth golden horseshoe hunt. On Saturday evening a wine and cheese exhibitor party, sponsored by Alice Spinella in loving memory of Region 16 members who have passed, was held during dinner break. Many thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make the show exhibitor-friendly and successful!
On Saturday evening a special award presentation was held to honor the 2022 recipient of The Mert Sartre Horseman/Horsewoman Award of Excellence. Patrick is a familiar face on the local, regional, and national level and known for his training program which includes Western Pleasure, Western Dressage, Ranch Horse Pleasure and Reining. Congratulations to Patrick on a well-earned recognition.
