HB 20 Sick Leave Bill Takes Effect 7/1/2022

At the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce we advocated against this bill as it was not fair to business owners versus government employees. The bill went on and passed with some amendments including the addition of a paid time off option. The good news, the bill does not take effect until 7/1/2022.

Based on the delay in the start date of the bill and the state legislature not providing funding for the bill we will go back to the Legislature for changes to bill the at the next 30 day session in January 2022. In the meanwhile, don’t worry and don’t be concerned about this legislation until after the next legislative session. The Chamber will offer training and support to businesses to minimize impact once the bill is fully funded by the legislature next year.
