Reflecting on a Year of Change,

Regional West Looks Toward 2024

Following a yearlong process of refocusing priorities and implementing organizational change, Regional West’s CEO reflects on recent accomplishments while anticipating the hospital’s 100th anniversary in 2024.

“This year’s positive changes were the result of a true team effort,” said Regional West CEO Mel McNea. “We’ve heard the community’s concerns, and welcome feedback on what we’re doing well and how we can improve. Regional West is taking constructive steps to sharpen our focus, operate as efficiently as possible, and continue serving our families, friends, and neighbors for years to come. We look forward to celebrating 100 years of service to our community and the region in 2024.”

Major 2023 accomplishments and works in progress include reviewing the relevancy of all vendor contracts to obtain the best possible prices, streamlining processes throughout the health system, partnering with a new purchasing organization, and improving transparency and communication.

We had a blast at the Air Link and Regional West EMS Open House on Sunday, Nov. 26! We were honored to fly Santa and the Grinch in from the North Pole to join us for festivities. We are grateful to everyone who braved the cold to check out the helicopter and ambulances, play games, and enjoy tasty treats. Air Link would also like to thank the Scottsbluff High School administrative team, facilities team, and athletic director, Dave Hoxworth, for all their help in making this event a success again. We couldn't have done it without you!

Regional West’s integrated, multidisciplinary approach for cancer patients and their families recently earned our Cancer Services program reaccreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). Regional West’s cancer program has been accredited by the CoC since 1985.

When patients choose a CoC accredited cancer center, they gain access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer care close to home.

Because accreditation is voluntary, it reinforces that Regional West’s Cancer Services program is committed to offering an exceptional level of cancer care and support to our patients and their families.

Regional West Birth and Infant Care Center’s pediatric beds just got brighter! Thanks to a donation from the Volunteers & Friends of Regional West, our patients can enjoy interactive games and puzzles from the comfort of their beds with our new Playtime Edventures sheets. We hope these bring joy and fun into our young patients’ hospital stays.

Regional West Garden County's Caring Kind Awardee

Congratulations to Regional West Garden County nurse Nicole Loomis, RN, the recipient of Garden County’s 2023 Caring Kind Award. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to Regional West Garden County is evident in the words of her peers on the nomination form, which said, “Nicole always thinks of her residents and staff first. Her transfer into the nursing home role was at the beginning of COVID-19 and she took on every challenge in stride and succeeded. She is definitely very deserving of The Caring Kind award for Regional West Garden County!"
