ECOEA Annual Legislative Dinner
will be
Friday, March 6, 2020
at LaPizzaria Ristorante in Canton. Join us for an evening with our state legislators and state Board of Education members to talk about the issues you face in your classroom and public education in Ohio.

We are honored to have NEA Secretary-Treasurer Princess Moss join us as a special guest this evening along with OEA President Scott DiMauro.
Registration is now open and is free to all members. As with all our events, a security deposit of $10 in advance will hold your reservation and is returned when you attend. Non-member guests are welcome for a $15 fee. The ECOEA-Retired member fee is $10. See the

. Due to the cost of the dinner, no RSVPs will be held without a deposit.

The
Quinn Educational Scholarship for Members
is open to ALL members for continuining education in their current field. The amount of the scholarship is $500 and is paid by reimbursement upon receipt of substantiating documentation. The scholarship is awarded by lottery drawing from all applicants. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2020. The application is available at the button below.

The
Quinn Educational Scholarship for Students
is open to children of members who are students studying for a degree in education. The Quinn for Students is an award of $1,500 that is paid directly to the university or college where the student is enrolled. Students must show proof of enrollment in an education program at a degree-granting institution. The winner is drawn from all eligible applicants. Students should apply on the ECOEA website using the button below by the March 1, 2020 deadline.

The
Declaration of Candidacy
for the vacant
OEA Board of Directors ECOEA Unit 1
position must be received at OEA by
February 10, 2020
for the 2020-2023 term. You must be a member of a local in Unit 1 to represent on the OEA Board of Directors. Please contact the office for more information about this position.
A
Letter of Intent
is required to have your name on the ballot at the ECOEA Spring Representative Assembly on Saturday, April 25 for expiring terms of
County Representatives to the ECOEA Executive Committee.
The
Letter of Intent
must be received by the ECOEA Business Manager no later than
March 14, 2020
for the new three-year terms 2020-2023. The following positions have three-year terms that expire this year:
- Carroll County Representative
- Columbiana County #2 Representative
- Holmes County Representative
- Stark County #5 Representative
- Stark County #6 Representative
- Wayne County #2 Representative
You must work at a local within the county to be eligible to run. Nominations taken from the floor of the RA can only be made by and voted for by delegates from the county position that is vacant. It is highly recommended that if you desire to run that you submit a Letter of Intent.
We also follow the same procedure for the following
ECOEA representatives to OEA Committees
for three-year terms 2020-2023 and a vacancy with a term expiring in 2022.
Letters of Intent
to the Business Manager must be received by March 14 for the following expiring or vacant terms:
- OEA Organizing Strategy Committee (term 2020-2023)
- OEA Convention Planning Committee (term 2020-2023)
- OEA Collective Bargaining Committee (term 2020-2023)
- OEA Professional Efficacy Committee (vacancy, term 2019-2022)

Registration is now open for the
NEA Post-Summit Conference
in Orlando, Florida, March 15-16, for our retired members. The Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. ECOEA has a $500 scholarship available for an ECOEA-Retired member to attend. More information about the ECOEA Scholarship is available on the

. The Scholarship is by reimbursement.

ECOEA INTERNAL ORGANIZING GRANTS
of $500 are available to locals to use for activities and incentives within the local to build capacity and engage members. ECOEA annually awards ten grants of up to $500 by a competitive grant application. Locals have used their grants to fund back-to-school events, association T-shirts, teacher recognitions, professional trainings, meeting refreshments and more that go directly to members within the association. ECOEA SPRING PUBLIC RELATIONS GRANTS
of up to $500 are available to locals to participate in and contribute to activities to enhance the image of the local within their community. Past PR Grant local recipients have contributed to local food banks, bought banners at local ballfields and gymnasiums, community races, tables at festivals and fairs. A positive image of the association is made by participating in and contributing to local events in the community through our Public Relations Grants. Get your Local Association name out there in your community to show your Association in a positive activity! See the

for information and a link to the application. These are competitive grants so plan your best idea, get the approval of your local president to implement, and apply! Grants need to be documented and completed by December 31, 2020. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2020.

Finance for All Educators
workshop was held January 25th at the Canton Courtyard. The STRS Session was led by John Buch of STRS, presenting his last workshop before his retirement. Congratulations John! Guy Kendall-Freas of NEA Member Benefits presented a session on Student Loan Repayment and a second session on Educator Stress. All members heard from Thomas Tornabene about the 457B Ohio Deferred Compensation, a different investment vehicle for all public employees. ECOEA President Julie Nelson presented Understanding Your Paycheck, a topic everyone should hear focused on what is negotiated and what is state law in your check. Thanks to all who attended and presented!
