Thank you for a lovely evening of Silver Linings! The program was full of inspiration, resilience and a strong sense of community. We recognized our honorees, Colleen Luzier, New York Life and Montgomery Village Rotary Club, and raised crucial funds to provide compassionate support services to those experiencing serious illness, caregiving challenges and grief. With the support of our community, we raised more than $200,000. Click below to view our program book.

Thank you to The Bottom Line with Susan Kenedy, CaringMatters Board Member and Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice and Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-Md) for helping raise awareness about the importance of grief support and the role of local nonprofits, like CaringMatters, in providing these emotional lifelines.
As we observe November as National Hospice Month, join us as we discuss aspects of hospice care and palliative care, related cultural considerations and important community-based resources that can help guide decisions and provide support.

The webinar will discuss: palliative care vs. hospice care, cultural sensitivities at end of life, especially with respect to the Latino community, what to expect when someone is actively dying and community-based resources.

Volunteer Training
Through interactive presentations and discussions, and guided exercises, the CaringMatters team presents a broad range of information and skill-building instruction to new volunteers that prepares them to be one-on-one caregivers and bereavement facilitators. The training includes topics such as serious illness, caregiving, hospice care, death and dying, grief, communication, nursing homes, advance directives, and more. CaringMatters’ patient & family support and bereavement programs, as well as volunteer responsibilities and self-care, are also reviewed in detail.

In Memoriam
We are sad to share that we have recently lost two members of our CaringMatters family.

Bernie Buteau, a longtime volunteer, former Board Chair, and current Trustee, was instrumental in forming the foundation of the organization over several decades. He is remembered throughout the CaringMatters community as "brilliant" and a "force of nature."

Dr. Sovan Tun, also a current Trustee, was a revered civic leader in the Asian, Cambodian and Buddhist communities in the Washington, D.C. area and helped spread awareness of CaringMatters' mission throughout the region.

We will miss them both and will continue honoring their memories through our work. Please join us in extending our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones.
