Building Cultural Intelligence
Tuesday, April 12, 2022
Online
11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. ET
Cultural intelligence is described as the ability to interact effectively and appropriately in a variety of cultural contexts. This includes:

  • Creating an environment in which diverse groups can learn from each other’s differences and leverage those differences for organizational and societal benefit
  • Acquiring cultural awareness of self and others including recognizing and identifying bias and ethnocentrism
  • Requiring awareness of one’s own worldview along with an ability to develop and adapt to a global mindset
  • Offering ways toward managing intergroup dynamics in an organization so that people can work effectively together in cross-cultural situations.

This workshop reviews many attributes of cultural intelligence and then explores some of the tougher deeper topics necessary for growing cultural intelligence.
Academic Library staff will be interested in this webinar since academic libraries very often support a wide variety of students, faculty and researchers from dozens of diverse countries and cultures around the world.
Public Library staff will find this webinar beneficial since cultural competence is one of the most critical skills public library staff will need to most effectively interact with and support the very diverse range of people accessing our libraries.
School Librarians and Media Specialists will benefit from this webinar since the younger generation in today’s schools are more culturally diverse than ever.
Special Libraries will be interested in this webinar because special libraries often support niche interests and cultures, making cultural competency is a must-have skill.
