Dr. Alexa Lamm, winner of the 2020 Borlaug CAST Communication Award and Associate Professor of Science Communication at the University of Georgia, will deliver a keynote presentation followed by the announcement of the 2021 award winner.
Bouncing Forward: Capitalizing on the Current Societal Evolution to Strategically Communicate about Science
Society has experienced more change in the way we converse, relate, and communicate in the past year than ever before. The global pandemic has brought about an immense amount of loss and created a dichotomous atmosphere where science has either been placed on a pedestal or questioned, thrusting us into what the World Health Organization has named an infodemic. Despite the struggles we have all experienced, there have also been great areas of societal growth and major strides made related to science communication. Dr. Lamm will discuss how the scientific community can capitalize on this moment in time by bouncing forward--showcasing ways to be strategic and proactive as we communicate about science improving food security, food distribution, food safety, agricultural technological advancements, and environmental sustainability.
