ACE IN-PERSON CLASSES
Is your student looking to prepare for their SAT or enhance their leadership skills through public speaking or debate? IPSF’s Afterschool C​lassroom E​nrichment (ACE) program is excited to be offering engaging enrichment classes right after school on the Portola High School campus.
 
Classes will be kept small to ensure optimal engagement and safety for all students.

Register today as classes will fill up quickly! Classes begin the week of October 5.
PORTOLA ACE IN-PERSON CLASS DESCRIPTIONS -GRADES 9-12
SAT PREP
This program is designed to prepare students for all sections of the SAT. The curriculum utilizes a 3-step system to ensure results:

1) Teach key SAT-specific concepts

2) Develop time management skills and test taking strategies

3) Administer regular diagnostic testing to measure progress and evaluate readiness.

This system, combined with instructors who have graduated from top universities and earned perfect scores in their subjects of instruction, ensures student success. Workbook included ($25 value).

Time: Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 4:00-5:30 p.m.

COMMUNICATION ARTS: PUBLIC SPEAKING & PRESENTATION
In this class, students will develop skills in the art of oral communication. Students will learn to organize their thoughts and ideas and confidently present them to an audience. Students will also have the opportunity to evaluate peers in a shared learning experience and develop critical communication skills such as evaluating evidence, listening, and leadership.

At the end of each session, students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a capstone presentation.

COMMUNICATION ARTS: DEBATE AND ARGUMENTATION
Parliamentary debate is an extemporaneous debate format where students explore current events and real-world scenarios. Participants must construct a case supporting or opposing a topic in a limited amount of time, developing vital spontaneous critical thinking skills along with valuable presentation abilities.

Students will learn to evaluate evidence and learn facts versus opinions to advocate for their positions. This class will explore the importance of civil discourse and teach students the importance of civil engagement and advocacy.

At the end of each session, students will have the opportunity to compete in a tournament and showcase their skills.

NEW IN-PERSON AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM - GRADES 9-12
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 
Learn the non-competitive martial art of aikido and explore it as a way to build communication skills using your mind and body. Learn to project confidence, read others’ emotions and intensions, practice assertive communication, and build more positive connections with friends, family, teachers, and mentors. You’ll even learn tips and tricks to make better videos for school and social media. 
 
No martial arts experience required to join.
 
Dates: October 5 - December 16
Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Location: Classes held in-person at Ikazuchi Dojo in Irvine, CA
ACE ONLINE CLASSES
IPSF is offering engaging enrichment classes online for high school students looking to prepare for the SAT or ACT, get a head start on college applications, or hone their leadership skills through public speaking, mock trials, and more.

ACE Online classes are kept small to provide individualized instruction and maximize the online experience for all students. Classes begin the week of October 5.

*No classes on 11/11, 11/23, 11/24, 11/25.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
A limited number of partial scholarships are available for all IPSF ACE classes based on financial need. Income documentation is required for approval. Parents may apply for assistance by completing the Scholarship Application available at www.ipsf.net/ace.
