Looking for activities to help your child discover new interests while having fun after the school day? IPSF’s ACE program, offered in cooperation with the Irvine Unified School District, is excited to provide engaging new enrichment classes right after school on the Sierra Vista campus for nominal fees.
Classes will be kept small to ensure optimal engagement for all students.
Session Dates:
September 12 - November 16.

FALL ACE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS & FRIDAYS
|
|
Jazz Ensemble Yearlong
Students must be enrolled in either Sierra Vista band or orchestra to participate.
The Sierra Vista Middle School Jazz Ensemble is open to any Sierra Vista student who is currently enrolled in an instrumental music class. Jazz is an original form of American music that is rhythmically syncopated in nature and highly improvised. Students will learn this unique style and how to perform it as well as entry-level techniques and approaches to improvisation. Performance opportunities exist throughout the year and all members are expected to attend. Although an audition is not required, instrumentation is limited to saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flutes, and rhythm instruments (guitar, piano, bass, drums, and vibraphone).
Class led by Sierra Vista's own maestro, Mr. Miller.

National Speech & Debate Team Yearlong
Join the best team in the United States - the Sierra Vista speech and debate competition team! Last year, Sierra Vista was the NSDA US national champion in Congressional Debate. Work hard, and you may qualify to compete at CHSSA middle school state championships, the middle school Tournament of Champions, and even NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) nationals. Last year, two Irvine middle schools were national champions in their events. This year, will that be you?
Challenge and test yourself against the best students in Orange County, California, and the US. Earn the chance to attend prestigious events like Harvard, Stanford, and Berkeley. Join the more than 120,000 students in the National Speech and Debate Honor Society. What do Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Oprah Winfrey, and Chadwick Boseman have in common? They all did Speech and Debate! Join speech and debate and build your legacy. Speech and debate builds leadership skills, improves reading and writing, and enhances critical thinking. All students are welcome. No experience is required. This is a 90-minute class.
Tournament participation is optional and tournament expenses are not included.

Baseball / Softball Fundamentals
This class will help developing baseball/softball position players work on the fundamental skills needed to prepare for high school. The skills we will focus on include hitting, defense, baserunning, throwing mechanics, game time situations, and the mental side of the game. The first 45 minutes will consist of drills and directed instruction while the last 15 minutes are reserved for fun competitions between players. The class will meet in A-3 for a check in, then head to the fields behind the K Building. See you there!

Culinary Arts Tuesdays
If you like to cook and/or eat, then this class is for you! During this 2-hour, fun and interactive class, you will learn to sauté, bake, fry, grill, and much more. You will also be taught how to safely handle food and knives. This is a course that you can take trimester after trimester to build your abilities and try new recipes. We will be creating different dishes throughout the year. There's a lot to learn when working in a kitchen!
Content is the same for both Culinary Arts classes. Please only sign up for one.

Sewing for Beginners
Learn the basics of sewing in this ACE class-- no experience required. Using hand sewing techniques you will sew buttons, hem, and make bags, backpacks and more! Materials will be provided.

Basketball
Using our progressional curriculum and focusing on the whole player, we teach your student the skills they need for both on and off the court to be a better athlete. Our sport specific staff will focus on respect, teamwork and responsibility as they will start each class with a 'skill of the day' and progress into drills and games making an unforgettable experience for your young athlete. After a session of passing, shooting, dribbling and rebounding you will see why this is one of our most popular programs.
