Preprint servers have been in use for almost 30 years in areas such as high-energy physics, where collaboration and co-authorship are common, and economics, where a long review process is common. They have now come to the health sciences. In addition, COVID-19 has led to a surge in preprints as researchers use preprint platforms to rapidly share research results and, hopefully, accelerate advances. Preprints are not peer reviewed, which may pose a risk for misinformation. However, do the benefits of rapid dissemination and use of established controls outweigh those risks? Join us for a CSE Happy Hour discussion about preprints, led by David Riley, on Friday, October 30, 3-4 pm EST. Are preprints, like open access, here to stay?
