Chanukah Live 2021!
Friday, December 3rd

While we will miss our potluck dinner again this year, we learned last year how to make our Chanukah Live Celebration special, even online.
Join us via Zoom to:
- Celebrate a special Chanukah-Shabbat with our warm Shir Ami community.
- Kindle light in the darkest time of the year as we light our menorahs together.
- Join in unity with the global Jewish community through song, with Chanukah music provided by Cantor Abramson and other guest performers!
- Chose light and justice to guide our action in the world
Bring with you:
- Your Menorah and 3 candles to light.
- A glass of wine or other drink.
- Latkas, sufganiyot or other appetizers of your choice.
-
Print out the 4 page pdf of Chanukah song lyrics.
You may find latkas and sufganiyot recipes on our website. If you have a favorite recipe to add, please email us at [email protected].

Parashat Vayishlach
Genesis 32:4-36:43
In Parashat Vayishlach, Jacob reconciles with Esau and asks forgiveness of his brother after wrestling with an angel. Following the encounter with the angel, Jacob changes his name to Israel, which means "one who wrestles with God." To summarize further, Jacob seeks forgiveness, struggles and emerges with a new name.
In what ways do we wrestle with our beliefs? What makes struggle meaningful? How can we emerge stronger from the struggle?

Essential Jewish Conversation
Monday, November 22nd
7:30 PM Via Zoom
The topic we will be exploring is the
Jewish perspective on Immigrants:
Refugees from War, Disaster.
Call it a symposium, a salon, a forum or a debate, Jewish life has long been centered around a vibrant exchange of ideas and viewpoints – a sacred conversation meant to bring meaning to our lives. This year we will continue our exploration of the Jewish perspective on a range of beliefs and values.
Future conversations will take place on: 12/20, 1/24, 2/21, 3/28, 4/25, 6/20

Rosh Chodesh for Women and Men
Monday, December 6th
7:30 PM Via Zoom
This month, we will discuss: Ch 3 - Glad to Get Up in the Morning - Lessons for a Successful Career
30 Lessons for Living, by Karl Pillemer, is our core text for our Rosh Chodesh gathering. All of our discussions are "stand alone" and you do not have to have read the book to participate. Members and guests are welcome!
The book relates life lessons learned, as he interviews older people and organizes their responses in categories to which we can all relate.
The wisdom gleaned from people who’ve lived and learned through their lives will often mirror our own experiences, confirm conclusions we’ve come to, and, perhaps, show us that ~ in spite of self-doubts ~ we’ve done our homework pretty well.
The next book discussions will be on: 12/6, 1/3, 1/31, 2/28, 4/4, 5/2, 6/6
