Call for Volunteers – Early Adopters needed for FREE Business Tool for Contractors
As a membership perk, the ECAO is offering a custom business tool to our contractors – and before we can deploy it to all members, we are looking for a few member contractors from each local area to test the software and provide feedback!
What are we offering? A complementary database that: (1) lets you track your projects in one place, and (2) provides real-time high-level business insights.
Project data can be tracked and broken down in various ways including sector/market, location, local area, type of project, ballpark value and more. Furthermore, information specific to market recovery and stabilization can be captured including stab amount, terms, successful bidder, etc.
Who can see my data? You can share access with people within your company, and ECAO will be able to access reports from all information entered into the database. No confidential or identifying information will be shared.
How do I sign up for early access? Spots are limited - contact Jodi Travers at jtravers@ecao.org or Patryk Wrobel at pwrobel@ecao.org and tell us you’d like to volunteer. We are filling seats on a first-come, first-serve basis.
How do I learn more about this tool? Contact Patryk at pwrobel@ecao.org with any questions you may have.
When will it be available to all ECAO Contractor members? We’re expecting it to be available to all members by the end of Q1 this year. Stay tuned for details.

EHRC: A Career with Purpose – Apprentices Building Canada’s Reduced Carbon Future
In 2021, Canada joined 120+ other countries in committing to achieving net-zero emissions by year 2050 in an effort to “avert the worst impacts of climate change.” In a few words, that means either reducing or offsetting the economy’s greenhouse gas emissions through electrification, energy efficiency and clean technologies. This commitment, along with the changes in the electricity sector workforce composition, present a unique opportunity for young people who are looking for a career with purpose.
Industry Outlook
Currently, the electricity and clean technology sectors are facing significant difficulties regarding human resources. From a macro perspective, the low unemployment rate in Canada and exceptionally high job vacancies are indicative of a labour shortage in general. In addition, the sector’s pre-pandemic retirement rate, according to research undertaken by EHRC, a non-profit organization working to strengthen the ability of the Canadian electricity industry to meet the current and future needs of its workforce, is at almost 3%, or 1.5. times the national average for all industries. This number has likely increased due to the pandemic, although the exact impact is not yet determined.
