How does your business compare with those of your peers on things like Construction, Service, and Emergency rates across sectors, ability (or willingness) to take on apprentices, safety responsibilities (and costs), and more?

Electrical Business Magazine has launched its 4th Annual national survey of Charge-out Rates and Revenues for Canadian electrical contractors. The rapid-fire survey only takes about 5 minutes and is completely anonymous.

Published in our September 2022 edition, the results always deliver insights about the business of electrical contracting in Canada.

Work ethic, knowledge and experience, not gender, measures true value: Moghani

Promoted to project manager by EllisDon in 2021, Pegah Moghani has always been in awe of Toronto’s growth and development, even more so now that she drives by projects she has helped construct.

The Toronto resident is currently the project manager of Bentall GreenOak’s 45 Strachan, a $145 million- 39-storey rental tower being built in the west end of the city.

A construction industry veteran for 12 years, Moghani, 33, has been with EllisDon for just over seven years, starting her career as a professional services manager, advancing to assistant project manager, and then to her present status.

Despite her gender and youth, Moghani says she has never faced discrimination and has always considered herself an equal team member in a male-dominated environment.

Electrical Safety Measures Electrical Hazard Classification and Risk Assessment

By Terry Becker, P.Eng., CESCP, IEEE Senior Member

I have attended the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop (ESW) since 2006 when I started my electrical safety journey. This is the premiere conference for sharing knowledge and learning about arc flash & shock hazards, interpretation of CSA Z462/NFPA 70E, the evolution of IEEE 1584, low voltage work tasks, high voltage work tasks, arc flash & shock PPE, case studies, electrical incident statistics, what a compliant Electrical Safety Program is, and so much more.

The IEEE ESW was held in person in Jacksonville, Florida, March 8-11, 2022 and I decided I needed to attend in person, it is important that we all move back to a new normal and we need to interact directly in person on many fronts and for sharing knowledge and learning it is important we still meet in person. At the conference besides technical papers and poster sessions, there are tutorials offered, again an opportunity to learn.
