In this week's lesson, students learn about the sixth blessing and promise of the Beatitudes. They encounter the term "pure in heart," and explore what it means to integrate our hearts, minds, and bodies to be whole human beings. They will receive a challenge to care for others because our hearts are created to love others.
Parents may talk with children about someone you know who is pure in heart; it could be a friend, a family member, or someone you've learned about. Remember that when you live from purity of heart, you do kind and helpful things because you love God and your neighbor. You aren't focused on how it makes you look or what kind of reward might be in it for you.
Children's book recommendations to accompany this lesson are I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark, written by Debbie Levy and illustrated by Elizabeth Baddeley; Preaching to the Chickens: The Story of Young John Lewis, written by Jabari Asim and illustrated by E. B. Lewis; and Extra Yarn, written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen. Additionally, your family might enjoy viewing Pachamama on Netflix, an animated film about a boy living in a small village in the Andes Mountains who dreams of becoming a shaman.
If you need to pick up a Beatitudes packet, please email Mary Beth Tipton at mtipton@csmsg.org. Packets also will be available at the Sunday Outdoor Children's Eucharist.
