We Want to Hear About Your Impact!

As 2022 begins, we want to reflect on the good that our organizations have accomplished - especially through Spring2ACTion! We want to hear from some of our returning nonprofits about the successes they have had through the giving day. By sharing your impact story, you are not only spreading the word to other nonprofits, you are also able to spotlight your organization's impact to new potential donors that visit the site!

Each week, we will spotlight one of the impact stories that has been submitted. We are excited to highlight one from a previous year:

Space of Her Own

"The Covid-19 pandemic launched Space of Her Own, Inc. into a new and scary place. We are a mentoring organization for vulnerable girls in grades 5-8, and suddenly had to put a stop to all in-person programming. Our staff started working from home and developed virtual group meetings and classes, but we quickly learned from our girls that many of them and their families were suffering mightily due to job losses and health issues. We decided to redirect a great deal of the year’s funding toward emergency support for our girls’ families just as Spring2ACTion was getting underway, and we weren’t sure how donors would respond to this shift. The support showed during the campaign was nothing short of overwhelming! Thanks to Spring2ACTion and the generosity of donors, we were able to deliver family meals, Target gift cards and essential household items along with art and science project supplies for our virtual afterschool programming.

Through this challenging time, we have managed to develop an effective approach to virtual programming, strengthen our organization and community partnerships, and continue to offer essential aid to SOHO families. Thank you to Spring2ACTion and SOHO donors for helping us make the most of this year."

Interested in a Nonprofit Co-Working Space?
ALX Community and Old Town Community Church are considering converting the church’s 15,000 square foot education building on South Washington St. into a dedicated center for nonprofits. The proposed center would offer small offices, co-working, meeting and event space, and tailored programming for nonprofits. Affiliate memberships would be available for service providers in areas such as grant writing, fundraising, accounting, legal, HR, and IT. The organizers are hosting lunch at ALX Community’s Atrium location (277 S. Washington Street, Suite 210) on Wednesday, February 23 from noon-1:30pm to share plans and hear from nonprofits about their needs and ideas. Space is limited.

Email [email protected] if you’d like to attend or would like to stay informed about this project.
Grant Funding Available!
There will be an information session on February 15 at 9:30AM to discuss how to apply for the Alexandria Community Access and Emergency Support (CAES) Grant Program.

The purpose of this program is to provide grant-funding to nonprofits serving individuals residing within the geographical limits of Alexandria, Virginia. The Alexandria CAES Grant Program will support navigation efforts to ensure individuals are enrolled in key local, state, and federal programs and emergency financial aid that will include grocery gift cards, transportation assistance, childcare, eviction prevention, and rental assistance.

This program is being supported by the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds award number 21.027 awarded by the City of Alexandria, Virginia by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Tax Return Help Available
Since the American Rescue Plan expanded the eligibility requirements for the Earned Income Tax Credit, more workers will benefit from this tax credit that ever before, including younger and older workers without kids who are eligible for the first time. As tax season gets underway, it's critical that we spread the word about this expanded eligibility to as many Alexandrians as possible. Workers need to file their tax return by April 18, 2022 to receive this money.

For resources and information to help clients receive the full Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) benefits, check out our website!
