The Impact of Local Donor Advised Funds

The Loudoun nonprofit landscape is always changing. Come learn about those changes, how local philanthropy directly impacts our community, and how your clients can be part of community solutions.
ABOUT THIS
MONTH'S SPEAKERS
Amy Owen and her spouse, Don, live near Unison, Virginia, Loudoun County. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Alabama and received her Master's Degree in Interpersonal Communications from West Virginia University.

The majority of her professional career has been in nonprofit management with interim teaching as an adjunct professor at Shepherd University. 
For more than 10 years, she managed and directed fundraising programs for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy based in Harpers Ferry, WV. She served as a circuit rider to some 25 West Virginia community foundations supporting their emerging policy and fundraising efforts. She worked for a small family foundation before transitioning to the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation in 2001. 
 
In May 2012, she and Don moved to Loudoun County where she began serving as lead executive of the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties headquartered in Leesburg, VA. 
 
The Community Foundation was named Nonprofit of the Year in 2017 by the Loudoun Chamber. Amy Owen was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Loudoun Chamber in 2018.
 
She was a founding member of the Loudoun Estate Planning Council and serves on the Board of the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, and the County of Loudoun’s Human Services Strategic Planning Advisory Committee.
As the Director of Grants and Nonprofit Programs of the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, Nicole Acosta manages the Community Foundation’s grantmaking processes, implements and facilitates nonprofit programs and capacity-building trainings, and oversees the organization’s communications and public relations.   

Nicole has extensive experience in the local nonprofit and human services sector, from providing therapy to child victims of domestic and sexual violence, to serving as Executive Director of Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter for five years. She served on the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance’s Public Policy Committee and chaired the Northern Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Task Force for three years. She currently chairs the Loudoun Human Services Network’s Advocacy Committee, serves as vice-chair of the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce’s Nonprofit Initiative, as well as vice-chair of the Loudoun County Census 2020 Complete Count Committee. 

Nicole is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from James Madison University and a Master of Social Work degree with a clinical concentration from the Catholic University of America.
