Moving Tales - Creative Dance

Open up favorite storybooks and leap into an adventure! Children are inspired to explore movement through stories, poetry, illustrations and music. Classes begin with a Yoga inspired warm up.

Fantasy Ballet – Pre-Ballet

Ages 5 – 7

Thursdays 4-4:45pm

Saturdays 9:45-10:30am 

Discover the magical world of ballet! Princes and Princesses, fairies and woodland animals spring, skip, soar, fly and leap. Children are introduced to ballet vocabulary, steps and class progression through imagery, stories and the great ballets.



Contemporary & Choreography

Contemporary

With an emphasis on developing strength and musicality, this class pushes dancers to move expansively and allow their inner light to shine! 

Our warm up will help build stability, awareness, and control. Once that foundation has been established, we will travel across the floor with combinations that encourage dancers to utilize the momentum of the body. We will workshop to build confidence with turns, floor work, and inversions that we wouldn't find in a ballet class! A longer choreographed piece will encourage students to channel their inner performer, respond to the dynamics of music, and be bold.

Composition/Choreography

is designed for students to begin their journey into learning how to create choreography. We will explore finding movement based on different forms of inspiration including improvisation, music, props, sets, costumes, and more. Students will learn how to create movement vocabulary that will can be milled and developed through choreographic techniques into phrases, sections, and full choreographic works. Students will create works in groups and individually that will be shared in class each week and eventually at informal showings throughout the year. This is a full year class.

Broadway Jazz Technique w/Brandy Perez

Broadway Jazz

Step out of the audience and onto the stage for this fun class! Participants will build strength, flexibility, and performance skills through conditioning, movements in the center, and traveling combinations. We will learn choreography from musicals while incorporating technique and storytelling into each new combination. This class is great for those who are interested in exploring a different style of dance or who are interested in performing in school or community theater.

Senior & Junior Company Class

Company Classes are a requirement for Moving Light Dance Senior and Junior Company members. Classes will focus on technique and movement styles specific to the repertory being performed for the performances. In the Fall Session repertory for the Green Mountain Nutcracker will be workshoped and rehearsed. These classes give the company dancers extra time to prepare and fine tune the choreography for performances.

Moving Light Dance Company Requirements

Attend classes at Moving Light Dance.

Pay the Company Fee with Class Registration & Payment.

For Youth Company: commit to being present at all dance classes and rehearsals.

For Junior & Senior Company Members: commit to being present at all dance classes, Company Classes and Rehearsals.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are mandatory to ensure a productive and enjoyable process and successful performance. We understand that dancers have other responsibilities and prefer to have full commitment. One missed rehearsal will be excused. Please communicate in advance of the audition for any planned missed rehearsals. This factor will affect casting. When possible please communicate any absences in advance.

Commit to follow the Moving Light Dance Codes of Conduct.

Honor the Process by following the Principles of Company Member Behavior.

Junior, Senior & Adult Company Members are required to participate in STRIKE.

Moving Light Dance Codes of Conduct and Principles of Company Member Behavior may be found online and will be distributed at the Audition.

Senior & Junior Company Auditions Sunday September 13th

Auditions: Senior & Junior Company dancers are required to attend the audition to participate as a company member. Attending the audition shows commitment to the project as well as giving the directors a chance to best cast the production. The auditions are informal and all dancers receive a part.

Company Fees: The company fee helps cover the preliminary costs of creating the production. Your support is crucial to the creation of this experience for the dancers and the community.

Parents may sign up for a work trade position to contribute 4 hours of work and then deduct $100 from the Company/Spring Performance Fees.
