Anxious to Talk About It! A Time with Carolyn Helsel
Race. White Supremacy. Racism. Colorblindness. Post-racial. Do any of these words make you anxious? If so, you are not alone. Conversations about race and racism often make people feel anxious, either because they are not sure which words to use or because they are afraid of the conflict the conversation may bring. The Rev. Dr. Carolyn B. Helsel has been helping congregations and students to have these hard discussions with a deeper awareness of the feelings they evoke, so that we can stay in dialogue with one another even when it feels hard. The goal of these conversations is to grow in our awareness of the problem of racism, so that we can help work against its many forms throughout our society. As we come together as a church, listening to the stories of one another, we can grow as Christ’s body in embodying God’s love for the world.
