James Conley serves on the faculty of both the Kellogg School of Management and the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. He is a faculty contributor in the Kellogg Center for Research in Technology & Innovation and serves as a Faculty Fellow at the Segal Design Institute. His research investigates the strategic use of intangible assets and intellectual properties to build and sustain competitive advantage.

He counsels clients in patent, trademark and copyright matters, and has appeared in U.S. federal district and appellate court litigation, in inter partes proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. In addition, John manages the company’s infrastructure and information security functions. John is also actively involved in the Chicago tech community supporting D&I organizations for women and minorities and serving as a mentor for early-stage companies. Prior to Groupon, he served as CTO for Enova International, a publicly-traded,
Chicago-based FinTech company. Before Enova, John ran technology at Wheels, Inc., FTD and Applied Systems.
