New virtual reality system available from KACo

A new virtual reality training system called the WRAP VR system is now available from KACo for county law enforcement and jail staff. The WRAP VR system allows members to train in a simulated environment to improve their skills related to de-escalation, use of force, response to illnesses or injuries and the use of firearms and less lethal weapons.

“Many counties are familiar with our previous training simulator, the MILO system. The Wrap VR system has enhanced interactive capabilities which allow a trainer to speak directly with the person experiencing the scenario,” said KACo Law Enforcement Liaison Phil Crumpton. “With Wrap VR, law enforcement officers and jail staff can be better prepared for a variety of real-word situations.”

Two bills passed through the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday morning with the support of county attorneys.

HB 333, sponsored by House Speaker Pro Tem David Meade, would allow attorneys from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to prosecute juvenile court cases only with written consent from the county attorney and the District or Circuit Court judge. Hardin County Attorney and Kentucky County Attorneys Association President Jenny Oldham was at the table to express support of the measure.

Kenton County Attorney Stacy Tapke testified with Katie Comstock of the Administrative Office of the Courts and Koleen Slusher from the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center about HB 385. This bill would allow adult friends to be named in living wills and advance directives on behalf of a patient who lacks decision-making capacity.
