Join VBCF for State Breast Cancer Advocacy Day 2026!

State Breast Cancer Advocacy Day at the Virginia General Assembly is Thursday, January 29, 2026. The bus is filling up quickly, so make your plans to attend now!

Meet fellow advocates, learn about the legislative process, and speak with state lawmakers about legislation important to breast cancer patients. You don't need any previous advocacy experience, and there is no cost to attend. While we are still working on our list of legislative priorities, we know that paid family and medical leave and prescription drug affordability will be front and center this year.

VBCF makes it easy to participate. We provide:

🚌Free transportation to and from the General Assembly from the VBCF office in Richmond.

🍴Refreshments and post-event lunch (optional)

🚘Travel scholarships for advocates living outside the Richmond metro area.

Looking Ahead: 2026 Training Opportunity from the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC)

NBCC's 2026 Advocate Leadership Summit will be held in Washington, DC on April 25-27 at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, followed by Lobby Day on Capitol Hill on April 28. Registration is now open.

The Summit brings together advocates from across the country to:

  • Learn the latest breakthroughs in breast cancer science from world-renowned researchers.
  • Gain hands-on training in advocacy strategies that influence research, healthcare, and public policy.
  • Connect with grassroots leaders and peers who share a commitment to ending breast cancer.
  • Engage with public policy experts to sharpen skills for effective action on Capitol Hill and beyond.

NBCC provides a limited number of scholarships to attend the Summit, and the deadline to apply is February 27, 2026. Click the link above to find out more.

Note; VBCF's Karin Decker Noss Scholarship also helps defray costs for advocates to attend the Summit. Details about Noss scholarship availability will be announced in early 2026.

🎉ICYMI: Unanimous support for H.R. 2048, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act!

For the first time since its original introduction in 2019, all eleven members of Virginia’s Congressional Delegation have signed on to cosponsor H.R. 2048, The Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act! It is a major accomplishment to have our entire bipartisan delegation cosponsor this bill during the first year of the 119th Congress.

Thank you to all our wonderful VBCF advocates who called, wrote, and met in person with our U.S. Representatives throughout the year to communicate the importance of passing this legislation. This legislation will eliminate the arbitrary waiting periods for Medicare and Social Security benefits for patients living with metastatic breast cancer so that they can get the care they need right away. What’s next? H.R. 2048 is steadily gaining momentum in Congress with 187 cosponsors to date. VBCF will continue to support the bill’s passage.
