Happy August!

The last couple of weeks of hot Seattle weather has had me pondering the main "rule" in InterPlay which is to "take care of your own body."  How do I best do that through the summer days? Each body is different and has different needs to be warm or stay cool.  What works for me may not be the best choice for you.  Sometimes in InterPlay classes the leader will invite the "group body" to do something different than what is right for my individual body because of injuries or other body deals.  Having the courage in the moment to choose on my own behalf and take really good care of myself takes a lot of practice in InterPlay and in life.

Sometimes as we care for the needs of others, we forget to take care of our own bodies. InterPlay Leader, Kim Ykema has created a special series in Port Angeles beginning August 8th to help care-givers remember "caring for yourself enables you to care for others more effectively." Please invite all of your friends who live near Port Angeles!

One way to care for our bodies is to learn to notice the wisdom of our body that emerges as we sing, tell our stories, move, and have our stillness.  Please enjoy this video by InterPlay Co-founders, Phil Porter and Cynthia Winton-Henry as they discuss the gifts of "entering the body...the motherboard of experience".

Entering the Body ...The Motherboard of Experience
Entering the Body ...The Motherboard of Experience

Another great way to care for your body is to reward yourself with a weekend of play and connection.  We still have a few spots left for lodging at Camp Burton at our Good Times Summer Camp!  The last day to sign up to include food and lodging is August 15th. (If you just want to come for the day and bring your own food you can still do that after the 15th.)  Please click on this link to go to the website to register. We are looking forward to a delightful time with CathyAnn Beaty, Ingrid Hurlen, and Eric Chappelle!

And check below for other classes/workshops coming up this fall!  Lots of ways to "take care of your own body!"

In the spirit of self-care and going at the speed of the body this summer!  Whee!

Learn some of the easy-going basics of InterPlay:  movement, stories, silence and vocalization will improve how you live in yourself and in the community.  Led by mental health therapist Kim Ykema, InterPlay is based in affirmation, acceptance and looking for the good.  You don't have to think of yourself as creative in order to do InterPlay!

InterPlay movements can be done seated or standing.  For the best experience, please wear clothing that allows easy movement.
