LET's CELEBRATE - Our Moonshot Moment Literacy Movement Receives National Pacesetter Recognition (again)
Our Moonshot journey began over ten years ago, and has grown from an idea, to a Moonshot literacy goal, to a Moonshot Moment Community and Literacy Movement!

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our MCAN members, our work has again been recognized by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading as a national Pacesetter!

“At this challenging time, we have much to learn from each other. These Pacesetter and Bright Spot communities are leading the way in the six impact areas that we know matter. We congratulate them for this achievement and encourage our entire network to learn from them,” says Ralph Smith, managing director of CGLR.

Pacesetters’ Journey 
The process began in January when CGLR invited communities to file stories on its Community Learning for Impact & Improvement Platform (CLIP), using 16 categories that served as “tags” for each story when it was published on CLIP.
CGLR then asked the 112 communities that responded to self-nominate for Pacesetter Honors for one or more of their stories submitted for the What's Working Community Challenge

CGLR received self-nominations of 214 stories from 50 communities representing 23 states and one Canadian province. The nominated stories were considered, sorted and ranked by panels of community-based peer reviewers. By the end of the process, there were 2,000 story reviews filed by close to 400 peer reviewers. 
“The commitment to peer review is a unique and important aspect of the Pacesetter Recognition process,” says Smith. “The peer reviewers bring a combination of local knowledge and real-world experience that adds heft and credibility to the process.”

As children, families, and caregivers struggle with ever-present adversity from COVID-19, generations of structural racism, and economic disparity - investing in the healthy social and emotional development of young children and families is vital.

Celebrate our Florida GLR Virtual Fall Gathering - October 27, 2020

Join local GLR leads and community partners from across the state as we share, learn, and plan for third grade reading success! Our GLR Pacesetters will be sharing their award winning programs. We will have an early learning and literacy update from the Office of Early Learning.
Additionally, we will be highlighting new FGLRC resources including EduCare, Sound Beginnings and the Gap Map; as well as having 'face-to-face' time hearing how local GLR campaigns are adapting their work to accommodate children and families and to keep everyone safe!

Trainers interested in presenting this training locally, at least 2 times per year, will be asked to submit a brief Letter of Interest and resume by November 25. Selected trainers will then participate in a train-the-trainer presentation on December 10 and be provided with the Ambassador materials to begin offering locally in 2021.

Early language development & literacy trainers from across Florida are invited to become Sound Beginnings Ambassadors! Join us to learn more about how to add this University of Florida Lastinger Center/Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign training to your local training schedule. Experienced local agency trainers will be shown the elements of this training which dives deep into best practices in early language development when working with children birth-3 years of age. Instructors will be shown an abbreviated presentation of the training, the Ambassador Manual, the collection of videos, and the supplemental handouts associated with this training.

The Florida PTA and the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign are both focusing on increasing attention to the issues of chronic absenteeism and are supporting both state policy efforts on the issue.

We’ll also hear from local districts that are leading examples of how communities can implement attendance monitoring systems and strategies to improve student attendance and engagement.

For students now enrolled in distance learning, Attendance Works has worked with states and school districts from around the country to advance tiered support systems that take a prevention oriented, integrated approach to improving attendance.
