We have placed all of the documents in that module except the teachers recommendations for next year. We will individually email those to all virtual learners student email with the goal being end of this week. If you would like to pick up your physical packet with these documents printed out they are currently at the front desk. Registration information is due to ELAR teachers Monday, January 25th.

It is Mrs. Jackson’s principal chat, but counselors will be there to answer questions. Go to Mrs. Jackson’s newsletter to get the link. There are other zoom opportunities outlined in the Registration Timeline – some are open no appointment necessary and some are one on one (these spots fill quickly contact ksojack@mckinneyisd.net to reserve one).
We are here to support you through this process. Please make every effort to use the times allotted to answer questions.
Sincerely,
8th Graders,

Hello Panthers,
High School registration is well underway for our 8th graders. All face-to-face learners received a packet of information this week, and all virtual learners can either access the information online through the Evans Middle School canvas course or by picking up their packet at the front office. By now, virtual learners have all received emails to their MISD student email with their core teachers’ course recommendations. Those are also found printed in the packets. Registration cards are due to ELAR teachers Monday, January 25th. More information can be found on the Evans MS website under the parent tab. Link here
6th and 7th grade parents can expect to begin your registration process in February.
We have another opportunity for 6th and 7th grade students. Drug Free McKinney is partnering with our district to provide a program centered on goal setting, building relationships, positive communication, and positive choices around drug prevention. If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact the counselors. The first session for 6th graders begins on January 18th.
As always, if you need help with food or other needs, One Heart McKinney is an excellent resource and is updated often.
Warmly,
Patricia and Cathy

Dear Panther Families, We believe it takes the entire community to help our students grow into kind and compassionate young adults. Your student(s) receives a weekly CharacterDare on Mondays during Panther Time that is an actionable challenge focused on strengthening one of their “character muscles” like patience, kindness, commitment etc… The program we use, CharacterStrong, also provides Family CharacterDares that are aimed to provide actionable ways families can strengthen relationships, engage in character development activities together and continue conversations around serving others, and showing empathy and kindness for others. There are four categories of Dares:
• Conversation Starters
• Acts of Kindness
• Recreation and Rest
• Expressions of Love
Each week we will send out a Family CharacterDare that we challenge you to do with your students. The staff and administrators in the building will also be engaging in this personal character development as well. We believe in the power of role-modeling this work, and we have no doubt that with this common goal in mind, we are creating a more caring, compassionate, and capable world. You can go to characterstrong.com if you would like to learn more about it or contact Cathy DeLisle (cdelisle@mckinneyisd.net) with any questions.

Seventh grader Jordan Banks loves nothing more than drawing cartoons about his life. But instead of sending him to the art school of his dreams, his parents enroll him in a prestigious private school known for its academics, where Jordan is one of the few kids of color in his entire grade.
As he makes the daily trip from his Washington Heights apartment to the upscale Riverdale Academy Day School, Jordan soon finds himself torn between two worlds—and not really fitting into either one. Can Jordan learn to navigate his new school culture while keeping his neighborhood friends and staying true to himself?
