2021 Racing is Almost Upon Us!

It's April and just around the corner - beginning on Friday June 4th actually - is the 2021 Susan Hood Trophy Race (SHTR). Fondly referred to as the 'Coolest Race on the Lake', the Susan Hood is a 75 nautical mile overnight race that kicks off the racing season. The event is open to fully crewed, short-handed and solo sailors and is followed on Sunday, June 6th with the Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing Series (LOSHRS) Race #1 – a 16 nautical mile Course Race.

Registration for all Lake Ontario Offshore Racing events is open. The Early Bird Deadline for the SHTR and LOSHRS Race #1 is Sunday, April 25th.

Use the links on the LOOR website to sign yourself up for one or ALL the races. And please remember, if you are new to offshore racing and have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at  info@LOOR.ca  or contact your club LOOR Ambassador . We'll help get you to the start line.

Please note that although the LOOR committee is planning for a full racing season, we cannot predict what restrictions will be in place. We have been planning for all scenarios and have several alternate plans in place. Please watch your inbox and LOOR social media. We will ensure that we communicate any modifications as soon as they are finalised.

We’re hoping to make the 2021 LOOR racing season memorable for all.

Take care of yourself, and if you can, take care of someone else.

Lake Ontario Water Levels: Low, but Rising.

As anyone who has been near a familiar - to them - part of the lakeshore can attest, water levels are pretty low. While there seems to be no fear of flooding like in past years, some deep-draft yachts are reportedly currently unable to launch at some facilities due to the low levels. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers tracks water levels on the Great Lakes and reports on them weekly  As of April 2, 2021 levels are two to three inches higher than a month ago, but 27 inches lower than a year ago!

Water levels are expected to rise six inches on Lake Ontario by May 2, 2021, as levels in Lake Ontario are expected to rise at a faster rate than normal during April. Still, keep an eye on that depth sounder!
