This two-day training will provide an introduction as to why culturally specific gender-based violence services are essential for survivors to heal, thrive and lead across their lifespan. Participants will learn from the staff of Mujeres Latinas En Acción, a dual service agency supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and the longest standing Latina led organization in the United States. The Mujeres’ staff speakers will lead a series of critical conversations to empower providers to build upon their skill base to support culturally specific populations and gain actionable tools for use in the gender-based violence field. This comprehensive training will include opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, community building, and activity-based offerings to engage in culturally specific healing work for providers and survivors of gender-based violence.
Essential Questions include:
- How can providers work at the intersection of culturally responsive and trauma informed engagement?
- How can providers address social and cultural myths that obscure GBV in cultural communities?
- What does culturally specific gender-based violence work look like in action?
- What are culturally specific alternative healing practices and how might providers engage with them?
- What does preventative educational work look like and how to include advocacy in your practice?
