MEET GEORGE FOLEY
Since starting his career in wastewater treatment with the Town of Sidney’s newly constructed treatment plant in 1972, George Foley has led an illustrious career overseeing wastewater collection systems on Vancouver Island from the ground up.
George brings a wealth of experience to the virtual classroom, from Utilities Foreman on Pender Island to Supervisor of Wastewater Treatment & Transmission and Manager of Operations for the Environmental Services Division for the Capital Regional District in Victoria.
Classes taught: Wastewater Treatment 1 and Wastewater Collection 1

MEET DEAN SCOVILL
For over 33 years, Dean Scovill has worked in the field of health protection and water operations. First starting his career in Northern BC with Health Canada overseeing water and wastewater systems for First Nation Bands, Dean has continued to work for the Province of BC and relocated to the Lower Mainland, where he supports the City of Surrey’s water operations as an Engineering Assistant.
Dean is heavily involved in the water and wastewater industry conducting inspections and remedial media and participating in groundwater studies on nitrates and arsenic, which led to the co-authoring of a paper published in the Canada Water Resources Journal.
Dean holds a bachelor of Technology in Management and is a member of Applied Science Technologists & Technicians in Civil Engineering and the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
Classes taught: Small Water Systems, Small Wastewater Systems, Water Distribution 1 and Water Distribution 2

MEET KYLE MCBETH
Starting his career at Metro Vancouver in 2006 as a summer student in water distribution and wastewater collection, Kyle McBeth quickly became acquainted with the different aspects of water operations from maintaining pump stations and reservoir cleaning to water main maintenance and capital project commissioning. Moving into a supervisor role, Kyle was responsible for the water transmission for the municipalities of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, and Burnaby.
Since making a career jump to Water Superintendent with the City of Coquitlam, Kyle is continuing to build inter-organizational relationships and supply reliable and safe drinking water to residents.
Kyle is certified in Level IV Water Distribution and Level III in Wastewater Collection and has a certificate in Operations Management with BCIT.
Classes taught: Water Treatment 1

READ OUR ANNUAL CONFERENCE RECAP
On May 14, the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA) welcomed attendees in Penticton, BC, for the 2023 BCWWA Annual Conference & Trade Show. It was a pleasure to welcome over 600 delegates, 180 exhibiting companies and host over 100 education sessions for three packed days of connecting, learning and networking. It was truly an energizing and enriching experience to have so many passionate professionals and experts from the field in one place. We appreciate everyone’s contributions, learnings, ideas and questions as we continue to build industry knowledge and face new challenges in the sector.
