PLAN2LEAD TEEN SUMMIT GOALS

PLAN2LEAD SUMMIT is a collaborative partnership with the University of Illinois-Chicago CHANCE program. Founded in 2004, the CHANCE Program is a “comprehensive” academic support program that was designed to assist with academic, career-related, personal, and professional development, providing tutoring and mentoring activities along with civic engagement opportunities (all) aimed to prepare students for “life skills that you will encounter – during and after college.”

PLAN2LEAD Teen Summit is a transformative one-day conference designed to equip high school students with essential skills for personal, academic, and professional success. Through engaging workshops, professional presentations, and hands-on learning experiences, scholars will gain critical insights on career readiness, financial literacy, leadership development, and strategic networking. The summit encourages students to Participate, Learn, take Action, and Network, ensuring they leave with practical tools and a clearer vision for their future. The goal of each module is to give scholars:

  • the knowledge necessary to develop an understanding of how to present themselves for opportunities,
  • increase social capital competencies, and
  • how to realize the next steps in life beyond high school.

HOW DO SCHOLARS CHOOSE LEARNING MODULES?

High School Scholars will be able to choose 2 of the 6 workshop modules for the day. The third workshop will be gender-based, and students may attend the session where they feel most comfortable. Modules are filled on a first come first serve basis, so you may not be able to participate in all the module you choose. However, we can assure you that all modules are excellent!

NEW in 2026: PARENT PANELS

Parent panels are designed to equip families with the language, tools, and strategies needed to support their students’ academic, personal, and career development. These sessions align directly with teen workshops, ensuring families leave with shared understanding, realistic expectations, and actionable next steps. Just check the attendance box when registering your student. Modules include:

The Brand Identity: What People See

This workshop helps students define their personal brand by identifying their strengths, experiences, and story. Participants learn how to turn that brand into a resume and a professional LinkedIn profile that reflects who they are and where they’re headed. Students leave with a clear brand statement, a draft resume, and the foundation for building a strong professional presence.

This reflective session encourages students to explore who they are, what they value, and the career paths that may align with their interests. Participants examine multiple post-secondary options while gaining clarity about personal direction and future possibilities.

Ready for the Room: Professional Delivery

This workshop prepares students to present themselves confidently in professional and academic settings. Participants learn how appearance, body language, and communication impact first impressions during interviews, meetings, and formal interactions. Students practice showing up prepared, polished, and self-assured.

Power Networking: Presence, Etiquette & Professional Communication

This workshop focuses on building professional relationships through effective communication and etiquette. Students learn how to introduce themselves, hold conversations, and navigate both in-person and digital networking spaces. The session equips participants with tools to connect confidently, follow up professionally, and expand their networks.

When registering, please make sure your teen/student stays for the entire summit. When students leave early it disrupts the flow, safety, and experience of all participants. We are organizing over 150 students, please be on time.
