BATIK DYEING WEEK

Instructor: Sarah Dressler 

Five 2-hour classes,

Mon-Fri | 2-4pm | 6/12-6/16 

Come and explore this ancient technique of painting on fabric. Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. Batik uses layers of wax and dye to produce designs on fabric. Learn how to prepare your fabric, apply wax-resist, paint with dye and finish your piece. Leave with a beautiful one-of-a-kind scarf. Additional $25 material fee. Ages 16+

BEGINNER’S WATERCOLOR

Four 2-hour classes,

Learn watercolor techniques and how to apply them to a painting. Techniques include washes, brush work, glazing and color mixing. Practice each skill and combine them in a final project. Additional $30 material fee due to instructor. Ages 16+

Learn hand-building, throwing on the potter’s wheel and glazing. All levels. Additional $45 fee for glazing and firing. Clay is not included in the class cost or material fee and is available for purchase from the studio. Tools may also be purchased in class at an additional cost. Ages 18+ There will ONLY BE LOW FIRING AVAILABLE. Due to outdoor construction, we will not have the ability to high fire or raku fire this session.

ICE & INDIGO DYEING CLASS

Two 1½-hour classes,

Tue | 2-3:30pm | 7/11 & 7/18 

First learn how to ice dye. Make a one-of-a-kind pattern, creating unique works of beauty that you can wear or display around your home. In the second class learn how to indigo dye. The fabric first comes out of the dye bath bright green and turns to deep blue right before your eyes. Dye and choice of 1 item per day to dye is provided. Bring your own additional cotton/linen items to dye (no larger than a t-shirt). Additional $40 material fee due to instructor. Ages 16+

BEYOND BEGINNER’S WATERCOLOR

INTRO TO CLAYPRINTING

Ready to experience something completely different? Learn how Mitch Lyons' unique printmaking process changed the way clay can be used. You will be working from a slab of clay, adding layers of colored clay slips, pastels, textures, and imagery. From this the monoprints will be pulled. Even if you’ve never worked with clay or know nothing about printmaking, you’ll be excited to learn how to pull your very own clay monoprints. All levels welcome. Additional $30 material fee. Ages 18+

BLACK AND WHITE FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

Learn and practice documentary, landscape, and portrait film photography. Additional $20 fee covers chemical use only. Students responsible for their own film and paper costs. Ages 18+ *Please note students should have a film camera. The instructor asks for students to bring a completed roll of black and white film on the first day of class to develop. Tri-X 400 is the preferred roll of film.

This class is for students who have experience in watercolor or have taken our Beginner and Beyond Beginner classes. We will take the study of value in composition further, learn basic drawing methods, and focus on painting simple still lifes from life. Participants will provide their own supplies. Ages 16+

Join The Art Studio and Art Therapy Express on a summer journey as we explore a new expressive art medium each week. Sessions will introduce a wide range of new techniques by a master’s level art therapist with 35 years’ experience, UD visual arts summer scholars, and a master’s level art therapy intern. This exciting program will provide many new visual art techniques, but also provide a place to meet new friends while gathering in a joy-filled, creative art studio! ADAPTIVE PAINT PARTY AT CAROUSEL PARK – CANVAS PAINTING

Enjoy a fun-filled painting workshop in an inclusive setting within beautiful Carousel Park and horse stables, while socializing with new friends and making art. This session, in partnership with Art Therapy Express, will introduce a step-by-step, success-oriented technique, to help reveal the true artist within. Participants will take pride in their accomplishments. Plus - enjoy a short barn tour and meet the horses before beginning your art project. This workshop will take place outside in a covered area.
