Course Objective
  • Provide a risk based understanding of managing a bank and the consequences of failing to address risk.
  • An increase in the understanding by bank staff members of their roles in mitigating risk, and how risk is related to profitability.
  • Learn the EIGHT RISK AREAS in this course that will broaden your perspective beyond credit risk.
  • This is NOT a course in bank accounting, it is a practical review of how banks act in managing inherent internal and external risks.
  • Includes a unique exercise in which participants build a risk profile for their bank using their Uniform Bank Performance Report.
  • This is an opportunity to develop a well rounded understanding of how financial institutions operate and to understand how their components are risk related and risk managed.

Credit analysts, front line supervisors, managers
who are new to the banking industry, IT personnel, marketing support, bankers assuming management responsibilities, anyone else who would benefit from an improved understanding of how a bank functions.

  • Market Risk; The risk you probably aren’t thinking about; All about ALCO
  • Liquidity Risk; what happens when everyone wants their money?
  • Cyber Security Risk; Your data is more valuable than your vault cash
  • Operational Risk; A multitude of transactions every day
  • Legal Risk/ Documentation errors
  • Business Resumption Risk; Fire, flood, hurricane, tornado, blizzard, civil unrest
  • Regulatory Expectations;
  • Reputational Risk; “Death by Tweet”
  • Call Reports; Information reports on bank financial conditions
  • Uniform Bank Performance Report; Using this public data source
  • The course also includes a unique exercise in which participants build a risk profile for their bank using their UBPR.
