Mid-Valley STEM-CTE Hub awards second round of microgrants
The Mid-Valley STEM-CTE Hub recently awarded their second round of Educator and Community-Based Organizations microgrants. With ample evidence that COVID-19 is widening the existing systemic education and inequality gaps, our aim is to partner with educators and local non-profits to develop projects that reduce barriers and support students. Through this support, students will gain more access to meaningful science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and career and technical education (CTE) opportunities.

A total of $88,881 was awarded to fund a total of thirty-three equity-focused, STEM-CTE-related projects or initiatives. With our second round now completed, we have supported a total of sixty-eight projects for a total of $166,900.

Closing the Gap Podcast
The Mid-Valley STEM-CTE Hub created "Closing the Gap" to highlight professional women from our region who are working in STEM & Trades fields. This way, girls can see local women who are working in these careers and can consider these careers for themselves.

Our second episode features an interview with Barbara Hanley. Barbara currently works for Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) as a Research Associate at the Institute of Occupational Health Sciences.

You can listen below or right on our website, our Podbean page, and from there you can also subscribe via Spotify, Google Podcast, and iTunes.
There are different ways to participate in Closing the Gap:

Featured Role Model - This includes participating in a 20-30 minute podcast interview and getting your photo taken for the development of a poster.
Written Interview - For this, you will fill out a Q&A form, and we will use that information to write an article.
Speaking opportunities - This can include being available to give a presentation about your career to students, attending a Q&A session for an event, and other opportunities.
Mentorship - This aspect of the project is currently in development, but it would be an opportunity for you to connect with a girl (Middle/High School) who has shown interest in your career.
If you're interested in participating in any or all of these opportunities, please fill out this brief interest form. Thank you for your consideration!

Volunteer and make a difference in your community

If you're answer is yes to any of these three questions, you could apply to volunteer with us!
Sign on to be one of our partners!

Now more than ever, it’s imperative we provide young people from our region opportunities in STEM/CTE fields and professions to prepare them with the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
