"The study of climate change and sustainability will be the 'new computer science'."

These are the words of John Doerr. In May he made the second largest donation ever for a university ($1.1 billion) to fund a school focused on climate change and sustainability at prestigious Stanford University

We share his view that education is key to combating global warming, so we thought you might want to learn more about two partner organizations who are leading the way in this effort.

Project Drawdown - Climate Resources

Project Drawdown's mission is to help the world reach “drawdown.”—This is the future point when levels of our atmosphere’s greenhouse gases stop climbing and instead begin a steady reversal, thereby thwarting catastrophic climate change —as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible.

How can we get to Drawdown Point?

To reach this critical turning point, Project Drawdown emphasizes the need to understand the causes and impacts of greenhouse gases in these key areas:

  • Reducing sources of carbon emissions
  • Supporting nature’s carbon “sinks”
  • Keeping equality at the center of our action

3 Principles of the Circular Economy

1.Design out waste and pollution

2.Keep products/materials in use

3.Regenerate natural systems

Evolving Take, Make, Waste Thinking

Circularity provides a practical solution to tackling climate change and creating a more sustainable future. Specifically, it challenges us to evolve all areas of our human activity so that we reduce natural-resource usage and future emissions. This excellent video from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation shows how we can revolutionize our current “linear” approach for a more prosperous world.
