Dear Rae,
Happy New Year! Our first bulletin of the year has a time-sensitive deadline:
March 31, 2025. Please read on.
It is time to file for your Medicare Part B (Part D is not eligible) reimbursement for 2024. It is based on what amount was withheld during 2024 for Medicare Part B, as stated in your SSA or RRB 1099 form for 2024. The deadline is March 31, 2025 to
file for this benefit. Not everyone who retired from the Port Authority or PATH is eligible to receive this benefit. To check your eligibility, go to this page in PARA’s Benefits FAQs.
We encourage you to log in to your WageWorks|HealthEquity account (it is easy to set it up if you do not have one) to make sure that you have sufficient funds in your account to pay for the Medicare Part B 2024 reimbursement. We direct you to a letter sent by email and post by the Port Authority in September 2024, advising eligible retirees how to correct the funding in their accounts before filing for a reimbursement. The Port Authority provides the funds for this benefit; WageWorks|HealthEquity is the administrator. If you pay your Medicare premiums monthly or quarterly, you would submit copies of those paid bills in lieu of a 1099 form to process your reimbursement. If you need to talk to WageWorks|Health Equity, call 1-877-924-3967.
We thank those of you who have already paid your PARA dues for 2025. PARA cannot continue to provide up-to-date information, a website, eBulletins, our semi-annual newsletter, and many other forms of assistance to and advocacy for PA and PATH retirees without basic funding to pay out-of-pocket bills. The PARA Board consists of volunteers who keep PARA going, and we have no paid employees. Please go to
page 7 of the Fall issue of PARA-phernalia to know what changes will go into effect as of March 31, 2025 for people who are not current in their dues. Thank you, one and all, for your support, and to those who have made additional financial contributions, thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Your PARA Board
