Greetings Bradley Beach-

Memorial Day Weekend was a wonderful time for Bradley Beach! The good weather was a great start to our busiest season.  The parade, events, and our memorial ceremony Monday were all a tribute to our community.  SUMMER is here!

My updates on the 3 Infrastructure projects will continue for the next week or so; and then I intend to “pivot” to the next set of plans for our community.  But let’s finish these first.  A * denotes we are declaring victory- two down, one to go!

Project #1 Beachfront

Outfall Pipe on Ocean Park/ McCabe Avenue beaches.  Great progress continues through week 7.  Mobilization, Sheathing, dewatering, and excavation/ removal of the 48-inch existing pipe, (about 80 feet in total), and the 36-inch pipe (about 140-feet) are done.   All pipes are installed, and concrete “collaring” of a key pipe joint is complete.  We have started the removal of the sheathing, followed by clean-up, and demobilization.   I am hoping for a “schedule surprise” (a good one of course).  Stay tuned!

We are VERY optimistic all beach access and locker and mat placement will be in place before July 1st--BACK TO NORMAL!  We appreciate your ability to adapt for a few weeks for this important project.  Safety First!

* Project #2 Completing the “Phase II” Sewer project.

The curbing and apron work on primarily Fourth Avenue completed last week. All of the milling and paving will be completed by today- June 2nd!   Fourth Avenue and several side-streets were the remaining work to be done.   Landscaping will occur after paving is complete.

* Project #3 Walking Bridge

The walking bridge on Lake Terrace Drive between Bradley Beach and Ocean Grove- receiving a needed facelift.  We received and installed the new wire guards that complemented the wooden railings.  This style is like the construction on the new pier in Ocean Grove.

We are CO M P L E T E!   We are planning a “ribbon cutting” in the coming weeks- hope you can attend!

Our Memorial Day weekend officially kicked off our summer here in Bradley.  Our Parade was again a resident and visitor favorite on Ocean Avenue.   Following that, on Saturday and Sunday- vendors and food trucks/stands, along with a few surprises for the children (slide/ bounce house) were enjoyed by all on the Promenade.  More importantly, our Memorial Day ceremony at Riley Park on Monday was held- always a moving event remembering our war dead and Bradley Beach Police, Fire, and First Aid leaders.

We hope you fully participated in our Bradley Beach Experience.

The announcement by the Borough of Bradley Beach and the Bradley Beach Business & Community Alliance of the 130th Anniversary Celebration on June 10th on the promenade has been met with great excitement. In just three weeks all 300 available tickets were sold to residents/ friends of BB; or awarded to 8th grade BBES parents, our sponsors, and the bands and businesses donating food and services.  We are at capacity. The planning committee has been a collection of dedicated members of our public services departments that have made this important celebration a safe event. And a special thank you to our hard-working volunteers, talented musicians, and the 27 generous Bradley Beach business owners who made contributions!

We have a lot to be thankful for here in Bradley Beach, and much to celebrate. We will continue to focus on Service and Progress as a Municipal Team.

Thank you- and see you around town!

Mayor Larry Fox

June Tree of the Month

This glorious Black Jack Oak stands on a property of a family with deep roots in Bradley Beach’s history.

Susan Pearsall said her mother Nancy help plant this tree when she was four years old, along with her father, Lester Hurley in 1935.

Nancy’s grandfather, Everett Foster (spouse Anna Hudson) was a member of the borough’s governing body when Bradley Beach was established 130 years ago in 1893.

Today, if you stroll by the corner of Pacific and Burlington Ave to admire this tree, you may see the owners David and Cheryl Pearsall enjoying a rousing game of wiffleball with family and friends under the shade of this historic tree.

Boardwalk Bicycle Update

Walkers and beach goers will gain some extra space with the change of bicycle hours on the Bradley Beach boardwalk. Riders will still get a beautiful beach ride in by 9am!
