Pass the Keys to a Sober Driver Before the Big Game Begins
Ventura, Calif. — When Super Bowl LV kicks off, will you be prepared? Whether you’re cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Kansas City Chiefs, you must start with a game plan that prevents driving under the influence.
The Ventura Police Department will have officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs on Saturday, February 6, and Sunday, February 7, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.
“When it comes to preventing drunk driving, we are all on the same team. Designate a sober driver before the big game begins and have a game plan to celebrate responsibly on Super Bowl Sunday,” said Commander Darrick Brunk. “And, however you or your guests travel on Super Bowl Sunday, always buckle up. Your seat belt is your best defense in any vehicle crash.”
The Ventura Police Department reminds drivers that it’s illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher or under the influence of drugs. Additionally, while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for Super Bowl Sunday enforcement is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
