City of Ventura invites the community to attend General Plan virtual meetings

Ventura, CA. — Community members, local businesses, and community groups are invited to participate in the first of many engagement opportunities as the City develops a new long-term vision through the creation of an updated General Plan, themed “Our Vision, Our Future.”

The General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) will kick off the first virtual public meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. For the next two years, the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) will host public meetings on the third Tuesday of every month. For meeting agendas and details on how to participate, visit www.cityofventura.ca.gov/Government.

“The General Plan is a dynamic and visionary document that creates a roadmap for our community’s growth over the next 20 years,” said Ventura Mayor Sofia Rubalcava. “We want to encourage our diverse communities to participate in GPAC meetings and engage in discussions about housing, land use, climate change, transportation, public safety, and more. With the community’s feedback, we can ensure that the General Plan represents the full diversity of perspectives that exist in our City.”

Launched in November 2020, the General Plan is a blueprint for future growth and development within the City of Ventura over the next 20 years. Throughout the multi-year General Plan development effort, the City will offer robust community engagement activities that include surveys, virtual and in-person workshops when safety allows, an interactive project website, meetings with Community Councils, engaging with a wide variety of residents and stakeholders within the community, and other interactive activities.

The GPAC is a diverse, 22-member committee comprised of residents, business owners, educators, students, and other Ventura community members. The City Council approved the formation and bylaws for the GPAC on January 25, 2021. The City held interviews for nearly 50 applicants in December 2020 after announcing an initial application period in September 2020.
