City of Ventura freezes water and sewer collection fees for customers impacted by federal government shutdown

Ventura, Calif. In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the City of Ventura is taking proactive steps to support residents experiencing financial hardship. Beginning immediately, Ventura Water will implement the Billing Relief Initiative During Government Emergencies (BRIDGE) Program to temporarily suspend water and wastewater collection fees and pause service shutoffs for customers affected by the shutdown or by a suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

“Ventura is a community that looks out for one another,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “This action reflects our shared commitment to compassion, service, and ensuring that no one goes without essential water service during a time of hardship.”

“We know this shutdown is creating real uncertainty for families who depend on federal income and support,” said Ventura Water General Manager Gina Dorrington. “Our goal is to ease that burden and make sure no one has to worry about losing access to something as essential as water during this difficult time.”

Ventura Water encourages any customer impacted by the federal shutdown or by a suspension of SNAP benefits to contact the utility directly for assistance. Staff are available to discuss account options, verify eligibility for the BRIDGE Program, and connect customers to available payment support programs. All inquiries will be handled confidentially and with care.

Ventura Water remains committed to serving the community and ensuring that no customer faces service disruption alone. For assistance, customers may contact Ventura Water at 805-667-6500, email myvtawater@cityofventura.ca.gov, or visit www.venturawater.net
