Northern Sky Theater Announces Two 2017 World Premieres
Door County's award-winning Northern Sky Theater, has announced its 2017 Summer and Fall World Premieres: Oklahoma in Wisconsin and Naked Radio.
: Summer Season to feature the world premier musical Oklahoma in Wisconsin a "doo-woppin', fish boilin' good time." Fall season to feature the world premiere of Naked Radio, "on the air - in the bare!"
FISH CREEK, WI - Northern Sky Theater has announced its world premieres for the 2017 Season in Door County, Wisconsin.
The summer world premiere at the amphitheater in Peninsula State Park will be
Oklahoma in Wisconsin
Richard Castle (book and lyrics) and Matthew Levine (music) have written a charming homage to Door County with a musical that highlights the quirkiness of a family run inn in the 1950s. When a Hollywood scout pays a visit, the result is the birth of the tourist fish boil and the humorous clash of big city and small town culture. This is Northern Sky's third collaboration with New Musicals Inc. after the success of Windjammers and When Butter Churns to Gold.
Artistic Director Jeff Herbst points out, "So many people who consider Door County an extraordinary place have long, deep roots here. They came as children and are now bringing their own children or grandchildren. They still stay at the same charming inn, or get ice cream at the same stand. Oklahoma in Wisconsin, nostalgically set in the 50s, celebrates this personal connection to a place that still offers real serenity from the increasingly noisy world around us."
Naked Radio will be the fall world premiere at the Door Community Auditorium. Dave Hudson and Paul Libman will be debuting their seventh musical written exclusively for Northern Sky. When a small radio station gets swallowed up by a corporate parent, the local DJs are relegated to obscurity. But when a snowstorm knocks the power out and the station loses its tie to the pre-programmed feed, the guys have to punt, and a rejuvenated station brings back spontaneity and joy to the community it serves.
Northern Sky's Summer Season runs from June 14th - August 26th at the Peninsula State Park Amphitheater in Fish Creek, WI. There is no park sticker required to attend performances.
The company's fall season will be held indoors at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek from September 1st - October 14th. Tickets for both the summer and fall season will go on sale April 1st in the Northern Sky box office at the Green Gables shops in north Ephraim, via phone at (920) 854-6117, and online at www.NorthernSkyTheater.com.
Northern Sky will announce the rest of its 2017 season, featuring fan favorites from past years, this winter.
Northern Sky Theater is a non-profit professional theater organization that produces original musical shows in repertory from June through August. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall with shows at the Door Community Auditorium September through October and over the Christmas holidays in local town halls.
