“National Parks and Recreation Month highlights the importance of outdoor public spaces, parks, and accessible recreation programs,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nancy O’Connor. “These valuable resources and services play an important role in the well-being of our community, and proved to be especially vital during the pandemic.”
The City of Ventura Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 800 acres of park and open space, including two golf courses, and oversees three community centers, three community gardens, and the Ventura Aquatic Center. Over 2,000 recreation programs are offered annually.
According to National Recreation and Park Association, 93 percent of adults in the U.S. say their mental health is improved by services offered by local park and recreation professionals and agencies.
