Ventura, Calif. — The City of Ventura will temporarily relocate all City Council meetings to Ventura College’s Wright Event Center, located at 57 Day Road, beginning with the first meeting following the summer recess on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
The relocation is necessary as construction begins on the historic City Hall Council Chambers for a long-anticipated project aimed at enhancing accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Renovations are expected to continue through early 2026.
Other public meetings typically held in Council Chambers, including the Planning Commission and Director’s Hearing, will be temporarily moved to the Community Meeting Room at City Hall.
While all relocated meetings will remain open to the public and continue to be broadcast live on the City’s website and YouTube channel, technical limitations at the temporary locations will affect full virtual participation. Live virtual public comment will not be available during this period. Community members who are unable to attend in person are encouraged to submit public comments by 3:00 p.m. on the day of each meeting.
Built in 1912 and restored by the City in the early 1970s, San Buenaventura City Hall is more than 110 years old and is recognized as both a State Historical Landmark and a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This latest renovation reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to preserving the building’s historic character while ensuring it remains a safe, inclusive, and functional space for all community members.
Originally serving as the Ventura County Courthouse, the building was closed in 1969 after being deemed seismically unsound. The City purchased it from the County in 1971 for $145,000 and invested $2.7 million to restore and reopen it as City Hall. Since then, the City has completed several major upgrades, including earthquake retrofitting, elevator installation, and modern technological improvements.
