"Today's announced tentative deal between the TWU and the MTA is welcome news for New Yorkers, ensuring they will not have to face any further fare increases," said Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez. "This is a relief for the thousands of men and women who have kept our city running for the past 6 years without a contract even through superstorms and budget cuts. I appreciate the hard work of TWU President John Samuelson and MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast, as well as Governor Andrew Cuomo in coming to a suitable agreement for all parties. I am hopeful this deal can serve as a model for a bargain between the MTA and LIRR workers who face a similar struggle. We must do whatever we can do avoid a strike this summer so workers can stay on the job and our trains run for the millions of riders who rely on them."
