Ventura, Calif. — The Ventura Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location within the City of Ventura.
Carefully chosen based on data reflecting incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, DUI checkpoints play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
Corporal David Curtis emphasized, “Drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs pose a significant risk to others on the road. Implementing prevention measures to reduce their numbers significantly enhances traffic safety and ensures the well-being of our residents.”
The Ventura Police Department reminds drivers that impaired driving extends beyond alcohol; certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also compromise driving abilities. Despite the legality of medicinal and recreational marijuana, driving under its influence remains illegal.
First-time DUI offenders may face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license. If you witness a driver suspected of being under the influence, please call 9-1-1 promptly.
