Meet the Team!

Mike Sawka joined the Reliable Controls team in 2012 and has been a major contributor to our success ever since.  He has his Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, and over 20 years of experience in design, programming, testing and commissioning of process control systems.

From project support to project management, Mike has done it all. Most recently, Mike completed a Start-up at a mine site in Mexico. As Commissioning Manager on this project, Mike was responsible for developing pre-commissioning plans, commissioning plans and progress tracking systems. He led the pre-commissioning, start-up and commissioning efforts for 3 storage tanks, 18 well sites and 2 booster pump stations spanning 30 miles of pipeline.

Mike has led projects in Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Indonesia and more, in addition to several projects in United States. Mike has invaluable onsite experience, and is respected and valued by his co-workers for his leadership qualities and organizational skills.

In addition to project management, Mike also offers a great deal of skill in client relations. He’s capable of gaining a client’s trust and keeping it by always delivering what is promised, a highly valued attribute in the Reliable Controls Corporation. Slips, Trips & Falls

Slips, Trips & Falls account for the majority of work-related injuries. In fact, according to OSHA, they cause 15% of all accidental deaths, second only to motor vehicles.  

Slips happen when there is not enough friction between your footing and the walking surface. This can be a result of oily or wet surfaces caused by spills or weather. Loose or unanchored mats or surfaces can also lead to slipping, as well as flooring or walking areas that don't have consistent tracking in all areas. 

Prevent this hazard by cleaning up spills immediately, and clearly marking wet areas with the appropriate signs or warnings. Secure mats, rugs or carpeting with tacking or tape to make sure they lay flat and will not slip out from under anyone. Re-coat any inconsistent flooring, and always wear and encourage anti-slip footwear.  

Trips are a result of colliding with an object that causes you to lose balance. This can be attributed to cluttered walkways, an obstructed view or poor lighting.  Other hazards could be wrinkled carpets, uncovered cables or uneven steps.

Prevent this hazard by removing all obstacles from walkways, covering cables in walkways and, again, making sure all rugs and carpeting are evenly tacked or taped down. Ensure all walkways and entry ways are well lit and replace any uneven or broken steps or thresholds. 

Falls occur when you’re off center or off balance. There are two types of falls: Same Level Falls and Lower Level Falls. Falls at the same level happen on working or walking surfaces, and cause you to either fall into something or onto the same surface. Falls to a lower level are when you fall below the walking or working surface.  Falls are typically a result of slippery or cluttered walking/working surfaces, unprotected edges, floor holes and wall openings, unsafely positioned work materials and tools, and improper use of fall protection.

Prevent this hazard by taking your time and paying attention to where you are going. Walk at an appropriate speed for the task and make wide turns around corners. Also, walking with your feet slightly turned outward will prevent you from catching anything straight on. Make sure all floor holes and wall openings are appropriately guarded, and be sure to use fall protection, handrails and guards. 

According to the National Safety Council, 25,000 accidents occur in the U.S. daily as a result of a trip, slip or fall. These accidents are preventable through awareness, caution, proper personal protection equipment and housekeeping. Together we can maintain a safe, accident free work environment.

Gaosong Yi Receives Award from NACE International!
Congratulations to Gaosong Yi on achieving the Graduate Student Book Award from the NACE International Foundation. NACE is the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, established by eleven corrosion engineers in 1943. Today, the organization is in over 130 countries, with nearly 36,000 members.

The Graduate Student Book Award is given in the form of a credit to be used in the NACE Bookstore to help graduate students develop their corrosion libraries. Several hundred students apply for this scholarship each year and no more than 7 are chosen to receive it.

As a recipient, Gaosong travelled to the 2017 Corrosion Conference & Expo in New Orleans, LA to be presented with the award. More than 6,000 corrosion engineers, scientists, researchers, technicians, asset owners, inspectors, and other professionals from over 60 countries across the world attend this event. It is a great learning and networking experience, and we are so proud to have had a member of Reliable Controls Corporation in attendance.

Building & Maintaining Strong Client Relationships

Our clients are the most important part of our business. We work together to continuously understand their needs, build trust and dependability and maintain the highest standards.

To understand a clients' needs, we need to get to know them. We like to become the “Go To” team for our clients by building relationships that make them feel comfortable about reaching out to us with any issues or concerns.

To build those relationship, we need to know our clients’ goals and expectations. We’re realists, and will always be honest about our capabilities, timelines and specific skill sets. Our objective is to meet or exceed our clients' expectations and always deliver what is promised, while remaining equitable and ethical.

Our job is to remain well informed and educated on all relevant topics and keep our clients up-to-date on each stage of the project, but stay mindful of their schedules at the same time. Our clients are the purpose of our work, not an interruption, and will always receive the immediate attention they deserve; it’s the Reliable way. Take a look at a few practices below to help you build better client relationships.

1. Patience. Building client relationships take time and the last thing you want to do is force it with disingenuous gestures. Let your work speak for you. Nothing is more paramount than a job well done. The personal connections will build from there. 

2. Research. Get to know your clients' industry and business. Learn to speak their language. If you develop a knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses, you can cater your offerings accordingly. 

3. Exceed Expectations. Your client will always remember the time you came through for them. Don't be afraid to offer customized solutions. This will build unique client relationships and will also help you expand your core offerings and learn what your team is capable of.

4. Promptness. As we previously mentioned, our clients are the purpose of our work. Not an interruption. Acknowledge the receipt of communication right away, and if you can't provide an answer at that time, at least provide an expected time that you will have the answer they're looking for. 

5. Be Human. You're more than an e-mail address. It's easy to get lost in this form of communication because it's so prevalent and convenient in the workplace, but making a phone call or face-to-face meetings, especially when delivering good news, are great ways to build client relationships. 

6. Treat every client as your only client. Build such a strong relationship and maintain such frequent communication that your client wonders how you have time for anyone else. Make each client relationship feel like your most important client relationship. This will make your client feel as valued as they really are.

7. Always know your next step. And make sure your client knows it too. After each meeting or conversation, send a quick recap reminding your client of what was discussed and what purpose came from your last encounter.
