From the Desk of Fr. Mike Nacius, Pastor
We are excited and happy to be welcoming our students in our Religious Education program to the start of a wonderful year. Classes begin Sunday morning for the Religious Education students in Kindergarten through fifth grade and on Tuesday, September 18  for students in grades one through eight. If you are passionate about your faith, have time, and are interested in supporting and helping the Religious Education program please contact Mrs. Jeannie Brunk, our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Pat Schwarz, the Assistant Director, or Sarah Campbell, the Administrative Assistant of the program.

We have the good fortune of having our School Upper Grade Center choir at the 10:00am Mass this Sunday. Thanks to Mr.  Manges, our School Music Director, for working with these talented and joyous voices.

Calling all parishioners with "sweet tooths!" You are invited to stop by our Donut Sunday following the 8:00 and 10:00am Masses. Also, all are invited to support our local
Knight s of Columbus
Tootsie Roll Drive. This year's Intellectual Disabilities "Tootsie Roll Drive" is September 14, 15, and 16. As in the past, the Knights will be collecting around Lake Forest and Lake Bluff and after weekend Masses at both St. Mary's and St. Patrick's. Thanks for your generous support of the K of C's.

The St. Mary's Men's Club is gathering this coming Thursday, September 20. Monthly meetings will be held on the third Thursday of every month from September through May.  They are a great place to connect with other men in the community.  Fr. Mark Augustine is the guest speaker for the first meeting.  Please feel free to bring friends.  One of the main goals of this group is to get together the men of the parish. The Men's Club will be busy caring for the hungry by delivering food from Mariano's in Bannockburn to Holy Family food pantry on Tuesday mornings (6:45am-7:45am) as well as helping with the upcoming Pack the Pantry event. For more information about the St. Mary Men's Club you can reach out to Michael Lucas,   Fr. Mark, or myself.

Parishioners, friends, and neighbors are invited to the Fall Anointing Mass that will be celebrated next Sunday, September 23 at the 12:00 Noon Mass. Please note the information in the parish bulletin regarding this celebration of God's mercy and healing for our sisters and brothers in the Lord. All are welcome to attend the Noon Mass next Sunday!

You are invited to attend the Speaker Series at St. Patrick's Church this coming Wednesday evening, September 19, at 7:00pm. The speaker is Fr. Marty Zielinski  from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. Fr. Zielinski is a professor of Church History at the seminary since 1988. The topic of his presentation is,  The Catholic Church in time of Crisis and Challenge: An Historical Perspective.

This presentation will examine two times of crisis and challenge for the Catholic Church - The Great Western Schism/Council of Constance and the French Revolution. These examples will be used to understand how the Catholic Church responded during these times of crisis. With this historical background, the last part of the presentation will address the current situation of the Catholic Church with regard to the recent news stories about Cardinal McCarrick and the Grand Jury Report of Pennsylvania. All are invited to attend this Speaker Series.

God bless you with an Alleluia heart this day.
