GRADES K-2
Ms. Yenth'l
This week we focused on the Hebrew Alef-Bet and recognizing the letters. We also learned to sing Modeh/Modah Ani. Ask your child to sing it to you and whether they are supposed to say Modeh or Modah. This is the morning blessing in which we give thanks to God for another day. You can practice it with your child by listening here. We also learned about what it means to be grateful. Ask your child what they are grateful for. We hope you can join us this Sunday for a special program with our JTS Student Ambassador, Rabbinical Student, Alex Friedman.
He will lead a program exploring love through the first paragraph of the Shema!
The morning will start at 9:30 AM with a light breakfast.
GRADES 3-6 TUESDAY RECAP
Morah Marla, Alex, and Ms. Koota
On Sunday, we began with our morning prayers and explored the difference between Modeh (masculine) and Modah (feminine) in the prayer Modeh/Modah Ani. This is the morning blessing we say to thank God for another day. You can practice it each morning with your child by listening here. We observed Havdallah together and then shifted focus to the upcoming holiday, Tu Bishvat. The students learned that this holiday of the trees isn’t in the name. We discussed how the name Tu Bishvat refers to the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, when the holiday is celebrated.
The students talked about their hobbies and filled out an online Padlet that is shared with our "twinning" school in Zichron Yakov, Israel. This activity will help them connect with the students in Israel who will share their hobbies with us in return!
In Hebrew, Alex’s class worked hard on learning the Alef-Bet. The students are thriving and have mastered nearly 50% of the letters! One student has already learned the entire Alef-Bet and is helping their peers. In Morah Marla's Hebrew class, on Sunday and on Tuesday, students continued to work individually on Chatzi Kaddish, Vishamru and V'ahavta. Ask your child which prayer they are practicing!
They also enjoyed a 'fun' worksheet focusing on letter/vowel recognition.
Practice, practice, practice! That’s what it takes to make good readers. Please continue to encourage your child to practice in their book as they have been directed and to bring their books to class each Sunday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, we had lots of reinforcement on vowel and letter sounds with Ms. Koota. We challenged each other to phonetically create ordinary English words using Hebrew letters and vowels.
After snack we discussed Parashat Bo, which concluded The 10 Plagues. Students created a 10 Plague wheel and we practiced singing Hashkiveinu, a beautiful addition and rendition of our weekly prayer.
We hope you can join us this Sunday for a special program with our JTS Student Ambassador, Rabbinical Student, Alex Friedman.
